The impact of the Russia–Ukraine war on European electricity mix
The Russia–Ukraine war has fundamentally reshaped Europe's energy landscape, raising urgent questions about energy security, dependency, and the pace of clean energy transition. This study takes the 2022 Russia-Ukraine war as a quasi-natural experiment to investigate whether the war acted as a catalyst for accelerating the adoption of clean energy in electricity generation among European countries, particularly those highly dependent on Russian f…
Kultur als Welt des Menschen
Building on Ernst Wolfgang Orth, the paper develops an understanding of culture as the »world of the human being.« Culture appears as a modalized reality, both produced by humans and given to them, within which human orientation takes place. Within a cultural phenomenology, connections to metaphysics, symbol theory, and humanism are explored, and the relation between culture, nature, and critique is reflected upon
Kulturphilosophie als negative Naturphilosophie
If we call something ‘natural’ that occurs by itself without human intervention, and if cultural philosophy is interested precisely in what depends on human poiesis (production), praxis (action) and synthesis (conceptualization), then cultural philosophy refers ex negativo to the other of human intervention in the world. In this specific sense cultural philosophy can be understood as a negative philosophy of nature and is important for any kind o…
A Stationarity Test in the Presence of an Unknown Number of Smooth Breaks
Macroeconomic variables have been shown to display a wide variety of structural breaks of unknown number, duration and form. This poses a challenge since improperly modelled breaks can result in a seriously misspecified model. In this paper, we develop a new test for stationarity that approximates the unknown form of structural breaks using a selected frequency component from a Fourier approximation. Our proposed test performs quite well when bre…
Meat Consumption and Commitments on Meat Policy
Although meat consumption plays a significant role for individual and public health, there is only little empirical research on the motives of meat consumption informed by health psychology and hardly any on socio-political commitments concerning general meat production taking on a public health perspective. To fill this gap, a questionnaire study was conducted to examine the links between both disciplines. Correlational and multiple regression a…
The Overestimated Impact of Self-Interest and the Underestimated Impact of Justice Motives
The underlying motives of citizens' support of locally implemented air polluting or air protecting political decision-making processes are analyzed in a questionnaire study (N = 221): To what extent is citizens' support based on self-interest, and how influential are the often overlooked justice motives
