Disaggregating Aggravated Assault: A Comparison of Nonfatal Shootings and Other Nonfatal Gun Assaults in the National Incident-Based Reporting System
Diverse forms of nonfatal gun violence are grouped into a single aggravated assault offense category in national law enforcement crime data, limiting the development of targeted crime prevention efforts. This study assesses how nonfatal shootings differ from other forms of aggravated gun assault that do not involve a nonfatal shooting. When voters passed the 2020 Ballot Measure 110 (M110), the U.S. State of Oregon changed course from a criminal legal system response to a health-centered approach to substance use. The focus of the phenomenological qualitative study was on the lived experiences of U.S. educators who identified as lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB). Life story data regarding stress, coping, and identity were gathered, triangulated, and analyzed from 24 U.S. educators who identified as LGB teachers, mentors, and coaches. The UK Justice and Security Bill 2012–2013: Using secrecy to legitimize the securitization of the law
The Justice and Security Act of 2013 provides for closed hearings in civil cases involving security sensitive information. The author argues that the UK Government successfully created and reinforced the authority of secretive sources to ensure the Bill was passed.
