  • Hot” and “Cold” Cognition in Users of Club Drugs/Novel Psychoactive Substances

    Open Access•George Savulich, Owen Bowden‐Jones et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

Novel psychoactive substances (NPS) are popular "club/party" drugs that first attracted attention in the UK in 2009 and remained legal until the 2016 Psychoactive Substances Act criminalized their distribution. Unlike "traditional" illicit drugs, very little is known about the influence of their analogs on neuropsychological functioning. We characterized the cognitive and emotional profile of NPS/polydrug users using the Cambridge Neuropsychologi…

    Ashli Owen‐smith, R Craig Sineath et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Gay & Lesbian Mental…•2016

Depression was common in this sample of transgender and gender non-conforming individuals and was strongly and consistently associated with participants' perceptions of community tolerance, even after adjusting for possible confounding. The association between desire to receive hormonal therapy and depression is a finding that warrants further exploration. Future research should also assess depression and changes in perception of community tolera…

  • Frequency of Sexual Activity With Most Recent Male Partner Among Young, Internet-Using Men Who Have Sex With Men in the United States

    Kristin M Wall, Robert Stephenson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Homosexuality•2013•Cited by: 3•References: 25

Sex frequency, defined here as the number of oral or anal sex acts with the most recent partner in the past year, is a potential driver of risk for sexually transmitted infections. However, few data on sex frequency have been reported for men who have sex with men (MSM). Data from an Internet survey of MSM were used to describe sex frequency with most recent main and casual male partners and to estimate factors associated with higher sex frequenc…

  • Development and Validation of HIV-Related Dyadic Measures for Men Who Have Sex with Men

Laura F Salazar, Robert Stephenson et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Sex Research•2011•Cited by: 8•References: 5

The purpose of this study was to develop and assess the psychometric properties of several scales that measure dyadic constructs derived from an integrated model of interdependence theory and communal coping perspectives. The scales are specific to HIV risk and men who have sex with men who are in an intimate relationship. These scales are newly developed measures of perceived severity of HIV, preferences for sexual health outcomes, outcome and c…

  • Seattle and the Roots of Urban Sustainability

    Robert Stephenson, R B Stephenson•ARTICLE•Journal of American History•2011

Seattle and the Roots of Urban Sustainability places the “elusive and debated idea of ‘sustainability’” in historical context (p. 237). “Urban sustainability,” however, is not “sustainable urbanism,” as defined by Douglas Farr in Sustainable Urbanism: Urban Design with Nature (2007), a key text in formulating the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Neighborhood Development program. While sustainable urbanism seeks to minimize eco…

  • The influence of motivational messages on future planning behaviors among HIV concordant positive and discordant couples in Lusaka, Zambia

    Robert Stephenson, E Mendenhall et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2008

In Zambia the HIV/AIDS epidemic has resulted in many single female-headed households. Strong patriarchal laws and customs prevent widows and children from maintaining economic assets. This study examines the impact of a video-based motivational intervention promoting future planning in 1,504 HIV-infected couples in Lusaka, Zambia. Following a group video session, couples randomized to the motivational arm could choose to write a will, identify a …

  • Property grabbing and will writing in Lusaka, Zambia

    E Mendenhall, L Muzizi et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2007

High rates of HIV and poverty place women in a precarious economic situation in Lusaka, Zambia. Mortality from HIV infection is high, leaving many households single headed and creating almost a half a million orphans. One of the most prevalent forms of gender violence that creates poverty in women is when the male's family claims the property of the deceased from the widow and the children. The Zambia-Emory HIV Research Project collected 184 will…
