Environmental records from coral skeletons
Hundreds of coral paleoclimate records have been developed over the past several decades, significantly extending the instrumental record and improving our understanding of tropical climate variability and change in otherwise data‐poor regions. Coral “proxy” records measure the change in skeletal geochemistry or growth as a function of ocean conditions at the time of calcification. Over the past decade (since 2010), new syntheses have identified …
Aids-defining opportunistic illnesses in the Haart era in New York City
Despite widespread availability of HAART, opportunistic illnesses (OIs) still occur and result in an increased risk of mortality among persons with AIDS. We estimated the incidence of OIs among all new adult AIDS cases in New York City in 2000 overall and in demographic and clinical subgroups and identified factors associated with occurrence of an AIDS-defining OI versus AIDS diagnosis based on low CD4+ values only. In 2000, 5,451 new AIDS cases …

The Hanging Valley Site (13HR28)
The Hanging Valley site (13HR28) is a stratified Woodland burial locale in Harrison County, Iowa. This study reports on the excavation and analyses of floral and faunal remains, artifacts and features identified from salvage work conducted in 1983. The conclusions are: (1) Holocene alluvium in the site valley coelates with the Hatcher and Camp Creek members of the De Forest Fonnation; (2) the site is situated in a “hanging valley” and is buried i…
