  • Early Predictors of School Absenteeism in First-Grade Children

Open Access•Yuki Soma, Yu Ogasawara et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2025

Background : Continuous schooling and healthy learning are essential during childhood. Therefore, we investigated the risk factors of absenteeism in supporting at-risk students. The aim of this study examined the longitudinal relationships between absenteeism and body mass index (BMI), lifestyle, physical fitness, academic performance, and frequency of school health room use during the first grade of elementary school. Methods : A total of 453 fi…

  • Children's Trait Inference and Partner Choice in a Cooperative Game

    Open Access•Laura Schlingloff-Nemecz, Maayan Stavans et al.•ARTICLE•Child Development•2025•References: 66

A series of experiments conducted in Central Europe (Hungary, Austria) and East Asia (Japan) probed whether 5- to 10-year-old children (n = 436, 213 female) and adults (n = 71, 43 female; all data collected between July 2020 and May 2023) would infer traits and choose partners accordingly, in a novel touchscreen game. The participants observed third-party actions and interactions of animated agents whose behavior varied in prosociality and skill,…

  • Comparison of Oceanic Δ 14 C Data with Those of Geosecs

Open Access•Toshitaka Gamo, Yoshio Horibe et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1987•Cited by: 2•References: 5

The vertical profile of radiocarbon at (30° N, 170° E) measured in 1980 was compared with the GEOSECS data measured in 1973. 14 C was extracted from 200L of sea water, converted to C 2 H 2 , and analyzed with a gas proportional counter. Our profile and that of GEOSECS were in good agreement below 700m depth without systematic deviation of Δ 14 C values between both measurements. On the other hand, a Δ 14 C increase was observed above 700m depth, …

  • University of Tokyo Radiocarbon Measurements V

Open Access•Hiromi Kobayashi, Taeko Hirose et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1974•Cited by: 5•References: 6

Most of the 14 C measurements reported here were made between August 1970 and August 1972. Chemical treatment of samples and counting technique remain as described previously (R, 1968, v 10, p 144–148; 1971, v 13, p 97–102). We have added Houtermans-Oeschger type multi-anode anticoincidence gas proportional counter, manufactured by Tokyo Atomic, Japan. The central counter tube, which has several small holes, 5mm diam, is made of aluminized polyet…

  • University of Tokyo Radiocarbon Measurements IV

Open Access•Hiromi Kobayashi, Yasuko Matsui et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1971•Cited by: 4•References: 4

The C 14 measurements reported here were made in this laboratory between January 1969 and July 1970. Details of our apparatus, sample preparation, and measuring procedure were described in R., 1968, v. 10, p. 144–148. A change has been made since January 1969: strontium carbonate is reduced to strontium carbide with a mixture of 60g of SrCO 3 to 40g of Mg-powder ( 3 to 50g of Mg-powder (

  • Gakushuin Natural Radiocarbon Measurements V

    Open Access•Kunihiko Kigoshi, Hiromi Kobayashi•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1966•Cited by: 10•References: 1

This list includes many of the datings done from September 1964 to October 1965. The instruments and techniques used for this work are essentially the same as those used previously (Gakushuin III). Bone samples were dated on the organic materials obtained by the following procedure. After washing with distilled water the powdered bone samples were boiled with 10% H 2 SO 4 solution 10 to 40 hours. The extract, a clear solution, was exaporated to a…
