  • Is having your cell phone the key to happiness, or does it really matter? Evidence from a randomized double-blind study

Open Access•Todd Mcelroy, William Young et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Psychology•2024

Measured through both the PANAS self-report scale and temporal estimation task, affect remained consistent regardless of cell phone possession. These results suggest that cell phones may not carry the emotional weight often attributed to them. This finding challenges a common theme revolving around the negative emotional impact of cell phones and technology. Consequently, these findings may have important implications for the generally perceived …

  • Virtual Pastor: Virtualization, AI, and Pastoral Care

    William Young, William D Young•ARTICLE•Theology and Science•2022

This paper explores innovations in AI and virtual reality that could reshape pastoral care delivery. This includes approaches that preserve the paradigm of a human care provider interacting directly with a client, and others in which the provider is not present in real time or care is provided by a digital system. We investigate the feasibility of automated pastoral carebots and issues these would raise. We conclude that carebots are not yet able…

This paper investigates the purchasing process for green consumers in relation to consumer technology products in the UK. Data were collected from 81 self-declared green c…

  • Fair trade as a strategy for international competitiveness

Richard Welford, Julia Meaton et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2003

At the centre of the debate surrounding sustainable development is a recognition that companies can make a major contribution by being environmentally and socially responsible and that tools associated with these concepts can enhance the competitiveness and economic performance of the firm. In this paper we go further in arguing that in a world of globalisation it is equally important to look at issues of international trade. In an examination of…

Scarcely fifty years after Gutenberg printed his first Bible at Mainz, a veritable flood of publications began to pour from the presses of Strasbourg. Although no Strasbourg printer devoted his talents exclusively to publishing music, …
