Family configuration and family size
In a sample of 61,829 families, the probability of having an additional child is higher in those families with all children of the same sex as compared to those families with children of both sexes. In addition, families with only boys were more likely to have an additional child than families with all girls
Response Process in Judgmental Contrast
College students ranked opposite-sex and same-sex celebrities on their attractiveness as potential partners for an evening (dateability) in Experiment 1 (n = 130). The opposite-sex rankings were used to establish three stimulus contexts varying in average dateability for each sex. Subjects then gave two types of magnitude estimations (line drawings and dollars) on the dateability of common stimulus names in the three contexts (Experiment 2, n = 1…
ABO Incompatibility and parity effects on perinatal mortality
The perinatal mortality rate is known to increase with parity. This parity effect is shown to be steepest for “O"‐type mothers, compared to mothers with blood groups A, B, or AB. Thus, there is a heightened parity effect in mothers who are likeliest to be antigenically dissimilar from their fetuses. This model may also be germane to other clinical conditions where negative parity effects are observed. Maternal‐fetal immunoreactivity is a likely e…
