Teacher feedback literacy in higher education: Navigating enablers and constraints
Feedback is essential to effective teaching in higher education. Teachers are expected to support student learning through dialogic feedback while navigating interpersonal, institutional and societal factors that may enable or constrain their efforts. This article explores how university teachers perceive such enablers and constraints across multiple levels, and how they shape teacher feedback literacy. Data were generated through semi-structured…
Do well-regarded university teachers exhibit feedback literacy? Examining the validity of a competency framework
Recent scholarship has advanced the notion of teacher feedback literacy (TFL) as necessary to foster student uptake of feedback and feedback literacy. However, the literature falls short of empirical work that demonstrates how these ideas translate into practice. This paper investigates the extent to which the feedback practices of highly regarded university teachers align with proposed macro, meso, and micro level TFL competencies. Drawing on se…
Computational Thinking and Modeling: A Quasi-Experimental Study of Learning Transfer
This quasi-experimental study investigated the impact of computational learning activities on high school students’ computational thinking (CT) and computational modeling (CM) skills. High school students (n = 90) aged 16 to 19 engaged in activities using computer models versus textbook-based models in mathematics and social science. The results indicated that students using computer models showed significant improvements in CT and CM skills comp…
Toward Nurses’ Transformative Agency in Transitional Care for Older Adults: A Change-Laboratory Intervention
Mobilization of nurses' agency across healthcare sectors is needed to counter challenges associated with older adults' transitions between hospital and primary care. Based on Cultural Historical Activity theory and the Change Laboratory method, we developed a learning intervention with 16 nurses. The aim was to foster the nurses' transformative agency to improve care. Video-recording of nine learning sessions were transcribed and analyzed. Result…
Insider action research and the microsystem of a Danish surgical ward
This insider action research project aimed to improve interprofessional team performance at a surgical ward. The purpose of the project was (1) to critically appraise potential deficiencies in staffs’ identification, clinical judgment, and management of deteriorating ward patients, (2) to develop an interprofessional change model, and (3) evaluate the impact of the change model and the AR process. The insider AR project took place at a large Dani…
Clinical Positioning Space: Residents’ Clinical Experiences in the Outpatient Oncology Clinic
In this article, we present a case study of residents' clinical experiences and communication in outpatient oncology consultations. We apply positioning theory, a dynamic alternative to role theory, to investigate how oncology residents and patients situate themselves as persons with rights and duties. Drawing from seven qualitative interviews and six days of observation, we investigate the residents' social positioning and their conversations wi…
The semiosis of family conflict: A case study of home-based psychotherapy
This is a case study of a blended family undergoing home-based psychotherapy. The study uses sociocultural theory (Vygotsky) and semiotic cultural psychology (Valsiner) in order to understand the appropriation and usage of signs as regulators of behavior. Furthermore, the article draws upon Foucault’s genealogical approach and Rose’s notion of Psydiscourse. It is argued that this approach is fruitful for understanding psychotherapy as a governing…
