Protovolosovskaya Ceramics from the Upper Volga Region. Parfenkovo 1 Settlement (Moscow Region) Case Study
The article examines the complex of Late Neolithic ceramics of the settlement of Parfenkovo 1, located in the Sergiev Posad district of the Moscow region on the left bank of the Dubna River. During the exploration in 2021, Neolithic ceramics of two traditions — combed and pit-combed - were revealed in the filling of the utility pit. Six vessels made of silty clays using organic solutions and mineral impurities (soil, chamotte, shell, mica, talc) …
Radiocarbon chronology of the Neolithic – Chalcolithic sites of the extreme European northeast
Radiocarbon Dating of Holocene Archaeological Sites in the Far Northeast of Europe
The paper is devoted to the critical analysis of the radiocarbon dating results of Mesolithic, Neolithic and Chalcolithic complexes of the northeastern part of the East European Plain (Republic of Komi, Arkhangelsk and Vologda Regions and the Nenets Autonomous Area, Russian Federation). The comprehensive evaluation of all available geochronometric data in relation with the studied archaeological events highlighted the following three data sets: r…

Another Way of Early Pottery Distribution in Eastern Europe? Case Study of the Pezmog 4 Site, European Far Northeast
A case study of the Neolithic comb ceramic site Pezmog 4 of the Kama culture presents a situation when results of radiocarbon dating change long-existing concepts concerning the development of archaeological events. Until the early 2000s, the chronology of the Kama culture, distributed mainly in the Kama and Vychegda River basins, has been based on comparative-typological analysis. Estimates of the age of this culture changed from the 3rd millenn…
Neolithic Dispersal in Far Northeast Europe
By analyzing archaeological evidence and radiocarbon dates, we studied the Neolithization of Far Northeast Europe (Russian Perm' region, Komi Republic, and Nenets autonomous district). Our study shows that this process in the eastern European forest zone was rather ambiguous. Taking into account the periodicity of settling and short duration of residence here, the term “Neolithization” in its traditional sense cannot be applied to some territorie…
