  • Dead or alive? Investigating long-distance transport of live fallow deer and their body parts in antiquity

    Holly Miller, Ruth F Carden et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Archaeology•2014•Cited by: 4•References: 20

The extent to which breeding populations of fallow deer were established in Roman Europe has been obscured by the possibility that the skeletal remains of the species, in particular Dama foot bones and antlers, were traded over long distances as objects in their own right. This paper sets out to refine our understanding of the evidence for the transportation of living and dead fallow deer in Iron Age and Roman Europe. To achieve this, museum arch…

  • The African Peer Review Mechanism

    David Osborne•ARTICLE•African Affairs•2010

The African Peer Review Mechanism (the APRM) was created to improve governance by assessing democracy and political governance, economic governance and management, corporate governance, and socio-economic development in African countries. Herbert and Gruzd call it ‘unprecedented’ in scope and depth, and ‘the most innovative and audacious element’ (p. 4) in the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD). The authors describe the APRM in deta…

  • Comparison of the Wais and Wais-R at Different Ages in a Clinical Population

    Open Access•Dan L Rogers, David Osborne•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1984

Performances on the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) and the WAIS-Revised (WAIS-R) were compared between groups at different ages. We studied 176 subjects (primarily outpatients) who were referred for assessment of cognitive function. Although all age groups tended to obtain lower scores on the WAIS-R, older subjects were penalized more on Performance and Full Scale IQs when the revised form was used. However, interactions suggest that di…

  • MMPI Characteristics of Multigravidas and Primigravidas in the Third Trimester of Pregnancy

    Open Access•David Osborne•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1977

52 multigravidas and 42 primigravidas in the third trimester of pregnancy were given the MMPI. Primigravidas obtained a significantly lower score on Hysteria and a significantly higher score on Hypomania. Since significant differences were found on only 2 of 17 scales, it was concluded that —insofar as the MMPI can measure—these two groups are very similar in their emotional responses to pregnancy

  • Counseling Readiness and Changes in Perception of Spouse during Intensive Group Therapy

    Open Access•David Osborne, Wendell M Swenson et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1972

This study attempted to relate scores on the counseling readiness scale of the Adjective Checklist to changes in perception of spouse during intensive group psychotherapy. The counseling readiness score was found to be unrelated to changes in the number of favorable adjectives used by S to describe the spouse or used by the spouse to describe S. A significant relationship was found between the counseling readiness score and changes in the number …

  • Counseling Readiness and Changes in Self-Evaluation during Intensive Group Psychotherapy

    Open Access•David Osborne, Wendell M Swenson•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1972

Heilbmn and Sullivan (1962) developed the Counseling Readiness Scale of the Adjective Check List (Gough & Heilbrun, 1965) from adjectives that differentiated berween clients who showed a more positive response to counseling and those who showed a less positive response. The function of this scale was to identify clients who are ready for help and could benefit from it. Gough and Heilbrun (1965) derived lists of favorable and unfavorable adjective…

  • Mmpi Correlates with Disability in Multiple Sclerosis

    Open Access•Leo J Davis, David Osborne et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1971

The Hy-Pt index, an MMPI-derived index of “repressive defenses,” was related to independent ratings of disability in 58 cases of multiple sclerosis. More specifically, those patients with Hy greater than Pt were more likely to show significant disability than were patients with Pt greater than Hy. This was true for both vocational disability and general disability. Possible reasons for the above findings are discussed

  • An MMPI Index of Disturbed Marital Interaction

    Open Access•David Osborne•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1971

This preliminary study indicates that couples in whom the husband scores 20 or more T-score points higher than his wife on the Mf scale of the MMPI come into group psychotherapy with significantly more distress than do couples with a low Mf index. The high-index couples also appear to benefit more from psychotherapy than do couples with a low Mf index
