Some possible dating evidence for a souterrain near Alyth, Perthshire
Roman coins as dating evidence for Drumderrach souterrain
A pit group of c. 80-70 BC from Gravina di Puglia
UNA FOSSA DEL c. 80-70 a.C DA GRAVINA DI PUGLIA La fossa F202, probabilmente una latrina, era situata all'interno di una stanza di un'antica villa recentemente scavata a Gravina di Puglia. Supervision began after the bulldozer had stripped some of the area and, later, burials were often seen only after they ha…

Excavations at Underhoull, Unst, Shetland
A site near the Broch of Underhoull had three periods of occupation, the earliest indicated by a very fragmentary hut floor and associated narrow souterrain; on a similar horizon were pottery fragments comparable with some from Jarlshof (EIA phase). The second occupation, indicated by a hut floor with two hearths, had industrial purposes, including iron working and manufacture of stone vessels. Amber and cannel coal were among the prolific small …
The Villages of the Howe of the Mearns
At the present time, when rural populations are declining throughout northern Scotland, it is worthwhile looking at the historical background to the problem. The pattern of movement is not a simple one of migration from country to town but rather a multi-stage phenomenon from rural areas to small centres, from small towns to larger towns, and also internal migration on a larger scale within the country as a whole. In some areas also a reciprocal …
