The contemporary landscape – marked by climate change, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, species extinction, and the shifting boundaries of the political community as we used to intend it – demands an urgent rethinking of inherited categories, to reassess the foundational concepts and frameworks of political philosophy. This monographic issue aims at responding to that demand by collecting and enhancing contributions that explore how the ph…
Alcune riflessioni sugli scenari della pandemia. Libertà, sicurezza, vulnerabilità
The tension between liberty and security and the tension between security and vulnerability alternated as defining elements of the condition we have been experiencing and enduring in these most recent months – and there are no signs which foreshadow any imminent change. Such conflictual tensions, which do severely affect the socio-political resilience of our democracies in such conditions of enduring uncertainty, do leave burining scars over our …
Bulgakov's Young Doctor in the Land of the Dead
This article discusses Mikhail Bulgakov's (1891–1940) short‐story cycle, Notes of a Young Doctor ( Zapiski iunogo vracha , 1925–28), as an underworld descent journey, or katabasis . Set in a shadowy hinterland in 1917–18, the cycle is one of Bulgakov's earliest explorations of a theme characteristic of his mature work–the irruption of the supernatural into the everyday. The influence of the katabasis is both linguistic and formal, as the cycle sh…

Secondly, the thesis affirming the uniqueness and univocity of the movement should also be questioned. The article argues that the syntagma ‘Islamic…

The Search for Public Administration
Consider the following items. First, administration has done very poorly, despite endless debate, in closing the gap between academicians and practitioners or the related gap between theory and practice. Second, efforts to establish generic schools of administration in which the public element gets its due have resulted in few, if any successes. Third, decades of insistence on interdisciplinary cooperation have come to naught. If anything, there …
