Little prior research has investigated the relationship between weather and the performance of business models in complex, multi-site tourism organisations in the context of future climate change. Novel in scale and scope, through big datasets this paper examines how different facets of visitation and revenue generation varied by daily weather conditions at multiple attractions operated by two major heritage tourism organisations in the three fin…

To-Night's Big Talking Point is Still that Book’
The trial of Lady Chatterley's Lover in 1960 and its subsequent publishing success sparked intense debate at the time and have come to exemplify a clash of worlds, one Victorian, repressed, deferential, restricted by class assumptions and hopelessly out of touch, the other progressive, open, liberated and, above all, permissive, that most value-laden and controversial of terms. Yet examining popular responses to Lady Chatterley's Lover reveals co…

Protests Against the Vietnam War in 1960s Britain
Previous attempts to understand press coverage of protests against the Vietnam War have either emphasized the struggle for self-definition that protesters were confronted with as a result of a dominant press presentation or have noted the press reversion to long-established models to explain this new phenomenon. In turn protesters were usually hostile to the press both because they felt they were misrepresented and because the press appeared to b…

Red Flag over Hong Kong , by Bruce Bueno de Mesquita, David Newman, and Alvin Rabushka
The body of literature dealing with the retrocession of Hong Kong is growing rapidly as the changeover draws nearer. Red Flag over Hong Kong distinguishes itself by going beyond what is happening or what has happened to predict what will happen after I July 1997. To give their analysis of the future credence the authors rely on a scientific “model of decision making, not on access to insiders or the divination of tea leaves” (p. xii)
Shamanism, History, and the State
The literature on shamanism and related topics is extensive, but has in general been biased toward curing and trance; the political and historical significance of shamanic activities has been largely neglected. The contributors Shamanism, History, and the State--distinguished anthropologists and historians from England, Australia, and France--show that shamanism is not static and stable, but always changing as a result of political dynamics and h…
