  • Early to Mid-Holocene Tree Immigration and Spread in the Isle of Man

    Open Access•Richard C Chiverrell, James B Innés et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary•2023

The Isle of Man is a large island which lies in the middle of the northern Irish Sea between Britain and Ireland and, because of its insularity and size, has an impoverished flora compared with the two main islands. This has been the case throughout the postglacial and warrants the island’s description as a separate phytogeographic province. We have considered Holocene tree pollen data from seventeen sites on the island which together preserve a …

  • A Detailed Record of Deglacial and Early Post-Glacial Fluvial Evolution

Open Access•James Innes, James B Innés et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary•2021

The lower reaches of the River Ure, on the flanks of the Pennine Hills in northern England, contain sedimentary and erosional landforms that are a record of fluvial activity during deglaciation and valley-glacier retreat at the end of the last (Devensian) glacial period, and in the subsequent post-glacial Holocene. Terraces and channels, most of which are now relict features well above the altitude of the present river, attest to the impacts of m…

  • Glacial geomorphology of the Skálafellsjökull foreland, Iceland

    Open Access•Benjamin M P Chandler, David J A Evans et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2016

Small-scale recessional push moraines are a characteristic signature of the active temperate glacial landsystem, and are often clearly linked to annual re-advances. These recessional push moraines represent a potentially valuable terrestrial climate archive, and may provide valuable insights into glacier dynamics. This paper presents detailed glacial geomorphological maps of recessional push moraines on the foreland of Skálafellsjökull, SE Icelan…

  • Glacial geomorphology of the terrestrial margins of the tidewater glacier, Nordenskiöldbreen, Svalbard

    Open Access•Marek Ewertowski, David J A Evans et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2016

A 1:4000 scale map of the terrestrial margins of the foreland of Nordenskiöldbreen depicts a polythermal glacial landsystem containing a record of the landform signatures of individual ice flow units that operate within the glacier snout. A 1:700 map provides a detailed overview of fluted terrain, based on unmanned aerial vehicle images captured in 2014. The pattern of landforms lying inside the Little Ice Age (LIA) latero-frontal moraine on the …

  • New observations on the relative sea level and deglacial history of Greenland from Innaarsuit, Disko Bugt

    Open Access•Antony J Long, David H Roberts et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2003

Relative sea level (RSL) data derived from isolation basins at Innaarsuit, a site on the south shores of the large marine embayment of Disko Bugt, West Greenland, record rapid RSL fall from the marine limit (ca. 108 m) at 10,300–9900 cal yr B.P. to reach the present sea level at 3500 cal yr B.P. Since 2000 cal yr B.P., RSL rose ca. 3 m to the present. When compared with data from elsewhere in Disko Bugt, our results suggest that the embayment was…
