  • The glacial geomorphology of the Cordillera Darwin Icefield, Tierra del Fuego, southernmost South America

Open Access•Esti Izagirre, Neil F Glasser et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2024

The Cordillera Darwin Icefield (CDI) has experienced widespread retreat since the Little Ice Age (LIA, ∼1870 AD). Prior to this, information on outlet glacier dynamics is limited as there are few terrestrial observations and little mapped deglacial evidence, limiting our understanding of CDI dynamics on Holocene centennial to millennial timescales. Here we present a glacial geomorphological map of terrestrial landforms and features for the CDI an…

  • Holocene glacier history of northeastern Cordillera Darwin, southernmost South America (55°S)

    Open Access•Scott A Reynhout, Michael R Kaplan et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2022

In the Cordillera Darwin, southernmost South America, we used 10 Be and 14 C dating, dendrochronology, and historical observations to reconstruct the glacial history of the Dalla Vedova valley from deglacial time to the present. After deglacial recession into northeastern Darwin and Dalla Vedova, by ~16 ka, evidence indicates a glacial advance at ~13 ka coeval with the Antarctic Cold Reversal. The next robustly dated glacial expansion occurred at…

  • Glacial geomorphology of the Marinelli and Pigafetta glaciers, Cordillera Darwin Icefield, southernmost Chile

Open Access•Esti Izagirre, Christopher M Darvill et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2018

This paper presents a glacial geomorphological map relating to two rapidly receding glaciers in the Cordillera Darwin Icefield. The Marinelli marine-terminating glacier and Pigafetta freshwater-terminating glacier are selected to represent different glacial regimes producing different geomorphological records under similar climatic conditions. We combine mapping from satellite and aerial imagery with fieldwork, updating limited previous mapping. …

  • Parque nacional bernardo o’higgins/territorio kawésqar waes

  • A 970-year-long summer temperature reconstruction from Rogen, west-central Sweden, based on blue intensity from tree rings

    Open Access•Mauricio Fuentes, Riikka Salo et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2017•Cited by: 2•References: 10

To assess past climate variability in west-central Scandinavia, a new 972-year-long temperature reconstruction, based on adjusted delta blue intensity (ΔBI adj ), was created. Presently, it is the longest blue intensity chronology in Fennoscandia and the third longest in the northern hemisphere. Measurements were obtained from 119 tree line Scots pine ( Pinus sylvestris L.) samples from Rogen, in the central Scandinavian Mountains, Sweden. Early …

  • Equilibrium line altitudes along the Andes during the Last millennium

    Open Access•Esteban A Sagredo, Thomas V Lowell et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2016•References: 6

Deciphering the climate changes that influenced the glacial fluctuations of the last millennium requires documenting the spatial and temporal patterns of these glacial events. Here, we estimate the change in equilibrium line altitudes (ELAs) between the most prominent glacial advance of the last millennium and the present for four alpine glaciers located in different climatic regimes along the Andes. For each glacier, we reconstruct scenarios of …

  • Recent Fluctuations of Glaciar Pio XI, Patagonia

Open Access•Andrés Rivera, Juan Carlos Aravena et al.•ARTICLE•Mountain Research and Development•1997
