  • Two Centuries of Relative Sea-Level Rise in Dublin, Ireland, Reconstructed by Geological Tide Gauge

    Open Access•Zoë A Roseby, Katherine Southall et al.•ARTICLE•Open Quaternary•2023

We demonstrate the utility and reproducibility of the saltmarsh foraminifera-based ‘geological tide gauge’ (GTG) approach by developing two independent records of relative sea-level (RSL) change for Dublin, Ireland. Our records, recovered from two different saltmarshes, indicate that RSL rose at a century-scale rate of 1.5 ± 0.9 mm yr–1 over the last 200 years. This compares favourably with the shorter, but more precise, mean sea level (MSL) reco…

  • Signal-to-noise ratios, instrument parameters and repeatability of Itrax XRF core scan measurements of floodplain sediments

    Open Access•Anna F Jones, Jonathan N Turner et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2019

  • Practical guidelines and recent advances in the Itrax XRF core-scanning procedure

  • The palaeogeography of Northwest Europe during the last 20,000 years

Open Access•Anthony J Brooks, Anthony Brooks et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2011

Please click here to download the map associated with this article. Since the last glacial period, large vertical changes in the height of sea level relative to the land surface have led to considerable horizontal shifts in the position of coastlines around Northwest Europe. Indeed, for much of the last 20,000 years, extensive areas of the present-day shelf seabed were sub-aerially exposed due (primarily) to the glacial eustatic lowering of sea l…

  • The relative utility of foraminifera and diatoms for reconstructing late Holocene sea-level change in North Carolina, USA

    Open Access•Andrew C Kemp, Ben Horton et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2009

Foraminifera and diatoms preserved in salt-marsh sediments have been used to produce high-resolution records of Holocene relative sea-level (RSL) change. To determine which of these microfossil groups is most appropriate for this purpose we investigated their relative utility from salt marshes in North Carolina, USA. Regional-scale transfer functions were developed using foraminifera, diatoms and a combination of both (multi-proxy) from three sal…

  • Mid-to late-Holocene relative sea-level change in southwest Britain and the influence of sediment compaction

    Open Access•Robin J Edwards•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2006•Citada por: 5•Referências: 5

Relative sea-level changes in southwest Britain are poorly constrained because of limitations in the quality and quantity of existing geological data. As a consequence, in contrast to most other regions in the UK, it is not possible to reliably infer rates of land and sea-level change during the last few thousand years. Furthermore, geologically based sea-level reconstructions from this area display significant misfits with relative sea-level pre…

  • The application of local and regional transfer functions to the reconstruction of Holocene sea levels, north Norfolk, England

    Open Access•Ben Horton, Benjamin P Horton et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2005•Citada por: 4•Referências: 3

Foraminiferal assemblages from Thornham and Brancaster marshes (Norfolk, UK) illustrate statistically significant relationship with elevation with respect to the tidal frame. We develop local (data from Thornham and Brancaster marshes) and regional (data from Thornham and Brancaster marshes combined with those from 11 other sites around the UK) predictive foraminifera-based transfer functions to reconstruct former sea levels from a Holocene sedim…
