The Relationships Among Counselor-Trainees' Gender, Cognitive Development, and White Racial Identity
In a study of 82 White counselor trainees enrolled in 3 graduate programs, gender and the lowest stage of cognitive development were found to significantly contribute to the variance in lower levels of the White racial identity. Male trainees who tended to think in dichotomous terms and look to authority to provide the correct answers tended to report attitudes about race reflected in lower levels of White racial identity. The Relationship Between Multicultural Counseling Training and the Evaluation of Culturally Sensitive and Culturally Insensitive Counselors
In a study, multicultural counseling training contributed significantly to the variance in ratings of a culturally sensitive counselor. No significant contribution was made to the variance in ratings of the culturally insensitive counselor. Possible explanations and implications of these results in multicultural counseling supervision are discussed
Enhancing older adults' reading comprehension
Syntactic measures, as well as measures of sentence content, were used with hierarchical multiple regression techniques to investigate older adults’ reading comprehension. Older adults’ reading difficulty, as measured by a test of comprehension and words‐per‐minute reading rates, appears to be due to the use of propositionally dense sentences and complex syntactic structures.
