  • On the Interplay of Gullibility, Plausibility, and Criticism: A Computational Model of Epistemic Vigilance

Open Access•Daniel Reisinger, Marie L Kogler et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Artificial Societies…•2023

Humans heavily depend on communication. We constantly share new ideas, catch up on current news, and exchange gossip. Much of the information conveyed in this way is, however, not first-hand. As a result, we run the risk of being misinformed and of spreading potentially harmful messages via large social networks. Current research argues that we are endowed with a set of cognitive mechanisms capable of targeting such risks. These mechanisms, known…

  • Nobody's Perfect

Open Access•Anne Bertrand, Yurika Aonuki et al.•ARTICLE•Languages•2022•Cited by: 3•References: 52

This paper challenges the cross-linguistic validity of the tense-aspect category 'perfect' by investigating 15 languages from eight different families (Atayal, Brazilian Portuguese, Dutch, English, German, Gitksan, Japanese, Javanese, Korean, Mandarin, Niuean, Québec French, St'át'imcets, Swahili, and Tibetan). The methodology involves using the storyboard 'Miss Smith's Bad Day' to test for the availability of experiential, resultative, recent-pa…

  • Octave-generalized analysis of chord progressions: Diatonic/fifth relations, missing fundamentals, completion tones

Open Access•Richard Parncutt, Daniel Reisinger•ARTICLE•Journal of New Music Research•2021

In a representative historical database of musical scores, a sonority was defined at every onset in any voice. For eight trichords—major (047), minor (037), suspended (027), diminished (036), 015, 045, 025, 035—immediately preceding and following sonorities were analysed. Chroma prevalence profiles depended surprisingly little on century or temporal position—especially for major/minor trichords (cf. Krumhansl’s key profiles). Profiles for nine no…
