Since Carl Bridenbaugh published The Colonial Craftsman in 1950, historians have asserted that artisans supported the pre-Revolutionary nonimportation movements largely because these trade stoppages benefited artisans economically. The present study was carried out to determine what effect such nonpersonality factors as the intensity of an aversive stimulus and the type of stimulus contingency had on the demonstration of experimentally induced repression.
