Open Access•Sam Crosby, Esther Rajadurai et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2022

Governments have attempted to increase clinical trial activity in their jurisdictions using a range of methods including simplifying the ethics review and governance process of clinical trials. This study’s objective was to systematically review the effects of government actions targeting ethics reviews or governance processes on clinical trial activity. The data sources of Pub Med, Scopus, Sage, ProQuest, Google, Google Scholar and reference lis…

  • The Law and Economics of Blockchain

Richard Holden, Anup Malani•ARTICLE•Annual Review of Law and Social…•2022•Referências: 4

This article examines the implications of Distributed Ledger Technology (a.k.a. blockchain) for several areas of law. While cryptocurrencies have received much attention, the implications of DLT are potentially far reaching. DLT raises interesting and important questions relating to rules of evidence, surrounding issues like hearsay and authentication. The advent of initial coin offerings has implications not only for how firms are financed but a…

  • Getting Dynamic Implementation to Work

    Yi-Chun Chen, Richard Holden et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Political Economy•2022•Citada por: 1•Referências: 2

We develop a new class of two-stage mechanisms, which fully implement any social choice function under initial rationalizability in complete information environments. We show theoretically that our simultaneous report (SR) mechanisms are robust to small amounts of incomplete information about the state of nature. We also highlight the robustness of the mechanisms to a wide variety of reasoning processes and behavioral assumptions. We show experim…

  • From reflective learning to reflective practice

Vivienne Griggs, Richard Holden et al.•ARTICLE•Studies in Higher Education•2018•Referências: 25

A key attribute of reflective practice is its capacity for on-going purposeful learning in relation to changing and demanding professional work. The teaching of reflective learning techniques in management education is intended to promote deep-level learning and the application of critical thinking to oneself, personal experience and the work environment. However, we lack empirical evidence that the teaching of reflective learning leads to enhanc…

  • Voting and Elections

    Open Access•Richard Holden•ARTICLE•Annual Review of Law and Social…•2016•Referências: 14

This article discusses recent developments in the study of voting and elections. How people end up voting in an election depends on (a) how effective voting power is distributed among voters and (b) the strategic interactions between voters and other interested parties. These are, in turn, affected by institutional arrangements, such as the composition of voting districts, campaign finance laws, and constitutional restrictions on vote dilution. I…

  • Gerrymandering

    Open Access•Richard Holden•CHAPTER•Wiley Blackwell Encyclopedia of…•2015

Gerrymandering refers to the practice of political actors drawing the boundaries of their own electoral districts for partisan or other advantage. It is of particular interest in US politics, where it is widespread. It has implications for the partisan composition of legislatures, the representation of minorities, and the entrenchment of incumbents.

  • Subgame-Perfect Implementation Under Information Perturbations

Philippe Aghion, Drew Fudenberg et al.•ARTICLE•The Quarterly Journal of Economics•2012

We consider the robustness of extensive form mechanisms to deviations from common knowledge about the state of nature, which we refer to as information perturbations . First, we show that even under arbitrarily small information perturbations the Moore-Repullo mechanism does not yield (even approximately) truthful revelation and that in addition the mechanism has sequential equilibria with undesirable outcomes. More generally, we prove that any e…

  • Incomplete Contracts and the Theory of the Firm

    Open Access•Philippe Aghion, Richard Holden•ARTICLE•The Journal of Economic…•2011•Citada por: 5•Referências: 26

Sanford Grossman and Oliver Hart used the theory of incomplete contracts to develop answers to the question "What is a firm, and what determines its boundaries?" in their path-breaking paper on "The Costs and Benefits of Ownership: A Theory of Vertical and Lateral Integration" (Journal of Political Economy, 1986, vol. 94, no. 4). Perhaps the central issue is that economic actors are only boundedly rational and cannot anticipate all possible conti…

  • The Rising Incumbent Reelection Rate

John N Friedman, Richard Holden et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Politics•2009•Citada por: 23•Referências: 19

The probability that an incumbent in the U.S. House of Representatives is reelected has risen dramatically over the last half-century; it now stands at nearly 95%. A number of authors and commentators claim that this rise is due to an increase in bipartisan gerrymandering in favor of incumbents. Using a regression discontinuity approach, we find evidence of the opposite Effect. All else equal, changes in redistricting have reduced the probability…

  • The Original Management Incentive Schemes

    Open Access•Richard Holden, Richard T Holden•ARTICLE•The Journal of Economic…•2005

During the 1990s, the structure of pay for top corporate executives shifted markedly as the use of stock options greatly expanded. By the early 2000s, as the dot-com boom ended and the Nasdaq stock index melted down, these modern executive incentive schemes were being sharply questioned on many grounds—for encouraging excessive risk-taking and a short-run orientation, for being an overly costly and inefficient method of providing incentives, and …
