  • From healing to leading

Open Access•Frances Cohen, Flora Cohen et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

There are over 120 million forcibly displaced people in the world, with numbers steadily increasing. The majority of refugees and asylum seekers are displaced in urban settings with fragmented access to health services, and those living in countries without refugee protections face particularly dire circumstances. High rates of trauma exposure and related mental disorders persist alongside structural barriers to care, underscoring an urgent publi…

  • Drug Injectors and Dealers in Odessa, Ukraine

Robert E Booth, Jane Kennedy et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Psychoactive Drugs•2003

This article reports on the results observed in a series of focus groups and in-depth interviews with injection drug users (IDUs) and drug dealers in Odessa, Ukraine. Ukraine has the highest rate of HIV infection in Eastern as well as Western Europe, and Odessa ranks among the cities in that country with the highest seroprevalence. The epidemic is largely concentrated among IDUs, although heterosexual transmission is increasing. The purpose of th…

  • Eliminating recency with self‐review

    Open Access•Robert H Ashton, Jane Kennedy•ARTICLE•Journal of Behavioral Decision…•2002•Cited by: 1•References: 4

This paper examines the use of self‐review to debias recency. Recency is found in the ‘going concern’ judgments of staff auditors, but is successfully eliminated by the auditor's use of a simple self‐review technique that would be extremely easy to implement in audit practice. Auditors who self‐review are also less inclined to make audit report choices that are inconsistent with their going concern judgments. These results are important because t…

  • Feasibility of named antenatal HIV screening in an inner city population

    Barbara A Dennison, B Dennison et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•1998

The object of this study was to assess the resource use, feasibility, uptake and consumers' perspective of introducing routine named human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) testing into an inner city hospital antenatal clinic (St Thomas Hospital, part of Guy's and St Thomas Hospital Trust). Following the introduction of a new service offering routine named HIV testing at booking appointments, the length of the appointments were recorded over a three-m…

  • HIV seroprevalence in a facility for runaway and homeless adolescents

Rachel L Stricof, Jane Kennedy et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1991•Cited by: 12•References: 2

In October 1987, the New York State Department of Health initiated a study to determine the prevalence of antibody to HIV in clients of a facility for runaway and homeless adolescents in New York City. A risk-assessment component was added in May 1988. As of December 1989, a total of 2,667 adolescents had been tested, and 142 (5.3 percent) were found to be HIV-seropositive (males 6.0 percent, females 4.2 percent). The seroprevalence rate increase…
