Career adaptability and job burnout of pediatric residents
The results showed the importance of addressing sleep disorder to mitigate job burnout among pediatric residents. Comprehensive interventions should include structured career planning, social support system, resilience training, and sleep management programs, with the objective of fostering the well-being and professional satisfaction of pediatric residents, which in turn should lead to improvement in healthcare outcomes

Long-Term Impact of Grandchild Caregiving Trajectories on Depression in Middle-Aged and Older Chinese People
There has been little research investigating the effects of caregiving for grandchildren on grandparents’ mental health from a dynamic perspective. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects on caregivers’ depression of changes in grandparenting intensity. The study population included 8,157 respondents obtained from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). Latent growth mixture modeling was used to group respondents in…
Urban-rural disparities in the healthy ageing trajectory in China
Healthy ageing is a prominent objective in the development of a country, and rural-urban disparities are an essential obstacle to overcome, with the rural population more likely to develop a low level of healthy ageing trajectory. Prevention and standardized management of chronic diseases should be enhanced, and social participation should be encouraged to promote healthy ageing. The policy inclination and resource investment should be enhanced t…

Introduction to the special collection on life course decisions of families in China
The economic reforms of the last thirty years have produced a dramatic improvement in the standard of living in China. However, the concurrent social transformation has also created both stresses and challenges for Chinese families. While researchers have
Nonparametric Panel Estimation of Labor Supply
In this article, we estimate structural labor supply with piecewise-linear budgets and nonseparable endogenous unobserved heterogeneity. We propose a two-stage method to address the endogeneity issue that comes from the correlation between the covariates and unobserved heterogeneity. In the first stage, Evdokimov’s nonparametric de-convolution method serves to identify the conditional distribution of unobserved heterogeneity from the quasi-reduce…
Social Capital, Finance, and Consumption
Using a new, nationally representative sample of Chinese households, this paper studies how social capital affects access to credit and its implications for consumption levels. The paper focuses on two specific forms of social capital: private social networks and membership in the Communist Party. Although party affiliation is linked to higher consumption in rural areas, those benefits are direct and thus do not work through credit markets. The m…

Making Friends with Your Neighbors? Agglomeration and Tacit Collusion in The Lodging Industry
Agglomeration is a location pattern frequently observed in service industries such as hotels. This paper empirically examines whether agglomeration facilitates tacit collusion in the lodging industry using a quarterly data set of hotels in Texas. We jointly model a price and occupancy rate equation under a switching regression model to identify a collusive and noncollusive regime. The estimation results indicate that clustered hotels have a highe…

Risk Aversion in Contests
In a contest, participants spend money or effort to increase their chances of winning a prize. We examine primarily the following question: Could the timid (the more risk averse) have a better chance of winning in contests? Under limited liability the answer is always positive. In the absence of limited liability there is no single answer, whereas when the prize is shared as a function of effort the outcome is independent of the contestants' risk…
