How Financial Factors Shape Household Happiness in China's Aging Population
The pursuit of happiness becomes increasingly complex within China's rapidly aging population, as economic transitions and evolving social structures reshape the foundations of well-being. This study investigates the impact of aging on household happiness, with a specific focus on risk aversion, financial literacy, and household debt. Utilizing data from the China Household Finance Survey (CHFS) for 2015, 2017, and 2019, and applying ordered logi…
Local biodiversity actions for sustainable development goal 15 (life on land) in China
Achieving sustainable development goal (SDG) 15 (life on land) depends on local conservation efforts. However, the lack of species data and inadequate ecological corridor designs significantly hinder conservation efficiency. This study focused on Sanmenxia City in China and utilized the Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Trade‐offs model, the GeoDetector model, and the Minimum Cumulative Resistance model to identify potential habitats…
Coordinated Evolution and Influencing Factors of Population and Economy in the Yangtze River Economic Belt
The degree of population-economy coupling and coordination is an important indicator of a region's balanced development. This study examines the evolution of the population-economy coupling coordination pattern in the Yangtze River Economic Belt spanning from 2000 to 2019. It draws from the economic growth stage and related theories, and employs methods such as geographic concentration, center of gravity analysis, and the coupling coordination mo…
Geochemical and Statistical Analyses of Trace Elements in Lake Sediments from Qaidam Basin, Qinghai-Tibet Plateau
The safety of lake ecosystems on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP) has attracted increasing attention, owing to its unique location and ecological vulnerability. Previous studies have shown that the aquatic systems on the QTP have been polluted to varying degrees by trace elements. However, little is known of the distribution and sources of trace elements in lakes in the northeast QTP. Here, 57 sediment samples were collected from six lakes (Dasuga…
A multi‐perspective composite assessment framework for prioritizing targets of sustainable development goals
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets proposed in 2015 are wide ranging and achieving them before 2030 may require extraordinarily high costs. Prioritizing a more manageable and logical sequence of SDGs targets based on national conditions is critical to reduce the complexity of SDGs, lower costs, ensure transitions are efficient, and accelerate implementation. Researchers have proposed a range of methods to rank the priorit…
Effects of Human Activities on the Spatial Distribution, Ecological Risk and Sources of PTEs in Coastal Sediments
Potentially toxic elements (PTEs) have attracted substantial attention because of their widespread sources, long residue time and easy accumulation. PTEs in the surface sediments of inshore waters are strongly affected by human activities because these waters are a zone of interaction between the ocean and land. In the present study, to explore the environmental geochemical behaviour and source of PTEs in the surface sediments of coastal waters, …
Distribution and Contamination Assessment of Soil Heavy Metals in the Jiulongjiang River Catchment, Southeast China
A total of 63 soil samples were collected from three soil profiles (yellow soil, red loam, red soil) from Jiulongjiang river catchment to investigate the distribution, controlling factors, and toxic risks of heavy metals, including Cr, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb, and Ni. The results showed that Cr and Cd in soils were enriched. The relationships between heavy metals and soil properties were assessed by principal component analysis. The results indica…
