  • Second Language Acquisition of Contextual Emotion and Its Effects on Novel Word Learning From Reading Across Contexts

Open Access•Shiyu Wu, Zan Li et al.•ARTICLE•Language Learning•2026

By manipulating lexical contextual emotion (positive vs. neutral vs.negative) and reading context (reading the same text repeatedly vs. reading different texts), this study examined whether Chinese learners of English as a foreign language (EFL) could acquire lexical contextual emotion (i.e., semantic prosody) associated with novel pseudowords. The study involved a reading‐and‐learning session followed by immediate and delayed posttests designed …

  • GRA With Secondment and Role-Importance-Based Training Plan

Open Access•Ruisi Yang, Shiyu Wu et al.•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Computational…•2025

Group role assignment (GRA) maximizes total benefits by assigning agents to appropriate roles, while GRA with a training plan (GRATP) further considers the impact of training. However, existing research on GRA and GRATP does not fully consider the demand for flexible adjustment of human resource assignment, which may lead to increased employment costs and project delays. Moreover, role importance significantly affects training resource assignment…

  • Incorporation of oXiris Bioabsorbent Filter into CRRT in the treatment of severe abdominal infections and analysis of associated risk factors for early off-machine

Open Access•Yanfang Dong, Jieling Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Introduction: This study aims to evaluate the impact of oXiris continuous renal-replacement therapy (CRRT) on the prognosis of patients with severe intra-abdominal infections (IAIs) and to analyze potential risk factors for early off-machine of oXiris CRRT during treatment. Methods: A total of 49 patients with severe abdominal infections admitted to the intensive care unit of the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University from October…

  • Do large language models learn like humans

    Open Access•Ying Xiong, Shiyu Wu•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica•2025

This study investigates fundamental differences in the acquisition of morphological patterns by humans and large language models (LLMs) within an artificial language learning paradigm. Specifically, it compares how each system responds to variations in input structure-blocked versus interleaved sequences and juxtaposed versus spaced presentation-across verb classification and inflection tasks. While LLMs (GPT4mini, DeepSeek_V3, Llama3.1) consiste…

  • The effects of context, story-type, and language proficiency on EFL word learning and retention from reading

Zan Li, Shiyu Wu et al.•ARTICLE•IRAL - International Review of…•2025•References: 29

What factors may influence word learning from reading has long been a research topic of interest without definitive results. To contribute to the understanding of this important topic, this study, with the design of the same group of participating students with different proficiency levels and treated with different conditions, investigates the effects of context (reading the same story repeatedly vs. reading several different stories), story-typ…

  • Adaptive Collaboration With Training Plan Considering Role Correlation

Open Access•Libo Zhang, Zhihang Yu et al.•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Computational…•2024

Based on role-based collaboration (RBC), group role assignment (GRA) optimizes a team’s overall performance by assigning the most appropriate individual agents from the team’s viewpoint based on agents’ role-playing abilities. As an extension of GRA, GRA with a training plan (GRATP) deals with the impact of training on team management. Considering the correlation between roles, the training of one agent on one role also affects the performance of…

  • Consolidating EFL content and vocabulary learning via interactive reading

Shiyu Wu, Dilin Liu et al.•ARTICLE•IRAL - International Review of…•2024

Via a 90-min classroom experiment, this study examined the effects of interactive reading on EFL students’ content and vocabulary learning. Specifically, two intact Chinese college EFL classes with the same level of English proficiency participated in this study. One was taught with a “read plus intra/inter-group discussion” (Read-Discuss) approach and the other was instructed with a traditional approach involving no student-student interaction. …

  • How semantic prosody is acquired in novel word learning

Shiyu Wu, Zan Li•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2024

Open Access•Ruiwen Huang, Rui-Wen Huang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2023

Background The COVID-19 pandemic may have increased the prevalence of psychiatric disorders, such as anxiety, depressive disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), among healthcare workers. Purpose This study aims to investigate the prevalence of PTSD and its risk factors among residents in the standardized residency training programs (SRTPs) in Shanghai during the COVID-19 outbreak. Participants and methods An online cross-sectional s…

  • Testing the Bottleneck Hypothesis

Open Access•Shiyu Wu, Dilin Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Second language Research•2022•References: 13

This study tests the Bottleneck Hypothesis (BH) that functional morphology presents the greatest difficulty in second language acquisition by examining Chinese English as a foreign language (EFL) learners’ knowledge of both functional morphological properties and core syntactic properties across three language proficiency levels. Specifically, this study compares Chinese EFL learners’ grasp of subject–verb agreement (a functional morphological pr…
