General and Sport-related Marketing Techniques in Canadian Recreation and Sport Facilities: Cross-sectional photo analysis of food and beverage advertisements
Objective: To evaluate food marketing techniques used in Canadian recreation and sport facilities and assess the healthfulness of foods and beverages marketed by the techniques. Design: Cross-sectional content analysis of photographed food marketing instances coded for marketing techniques according to Health Canada’s Monitoring Protocol, developed for monitoring food marketing techniques across settings, supplemented with new inductively identif…

Decadal heatwave fluctuations in China caused by the Indian and Atlantic Oceans
Heatwaves have been more common in China in recent years, largely attributed to human-caused global warming. While ocean variability, notably El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO), influences regional heatwave fluctuations in China, the impact of other oceanic variability remains unclear. Here we show that the tropical Indian Ocean (TIO) and the tropical and subtropical North Atlantic Ocean (TSNAO) significantly modulate the decadal heatwave fluctu…
Enhanced Asian warming increases Arctic amplification
The Arctic has been experiencing prominent warming amplification. However, despite anthropogenic emissions and oceanic variability, whether Arctic amplification has a connection with land in the lower latitudes remains unknown. Here, we newly identify enhanced Asian warming as a factor underlying Arctic amplification. The simulations demonstrate that enhanced Asian warming contributes 22% of the wintertime amplified warming over the Barents–Kara …
The extent and nature of television food and non-alcoholic beverage advertising to children during chinese New Year in Beijing, China
Children in Beijing were exposed to a high proportion of unhealthy F&B ads during the Chinese New Year holiday. Our findings support the need to assess and regulate TV F&B ads marketing for children
