Association Between Paid Sick Leave and Dental Services Utilization Among Working Adults in the United States
BACKGROUND: Timely access to regular dental visits allows the detection of preventable conditions at an earlier stage. Nonetheless, 37% of adults aged 18 and above had no dental visits in 2020. Various factors affect utilization, but little is known about the influence of job characteristics. This study examined the association between paid sick leave (PSL) and different types of dental services utilization among working adults aged 18-64 in the …

The Impact of Meaningful Use and Electronic Health Records on Hospital Patient Safety
The HITECH Act aimed to leverage Electronic Health Records (EHRs) to improve efficiency, quality, and patient safety. Patient safety and EHR use have been understudied, making it difficult to determine if EHRs improve patient safety. The objective of this study was to determine the impact of EHRs and attesting to Meaningful Use (MU) on Patient Safety Indicators (PSIs). A multivariate regression analysis was performed using a generalized linear mo…
The Impact of Medicaid Expansion for Adults Under the Affordable Care Act on Preventive Care for Children
INTRODUCTION: The Affordable Care Act of 2010 expanded Medicaid to low-income adults at or below 138% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). The aim of this study was to examine if expanding Medicaid to adults had an impact on preventive health care utilization of children from low-income families (focusing on families with annual incomes 0%-99% and 100%-199% of the FPL). METHODS: This study used data from the 2016 and 2017 National Survey of Childr…
Clinic Exploration of Care Processes to Promote Colorectal Cancer Screening in Rural Accountable Care Organization Clinics
It is essential to have an effective care process to promote colorectal cancer (CRC) screening particularly in rural areas. Primary care health care providers may have a significant impact on improving CRC screening rates among rural residents through systematic screening processes in their clinics. In this qualitative study, we aimed to explore the whole clinic processes of recommending and referring CRC screening in the rural accountable care o…
The Association Between Immigration Status and Office-based Medical Provider Visits for Cancer Patients in the United States
OBJECTIVES: We examined differences in cancer-related office-based provider visits associated with immigration status in the United States. METHODS: Data from the 2007-2012 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey and National Health Interview Survey included adult patients diagnosed with cancer. Univariate analyses described distributions of cancer-related office-based provider visits received, expenditures, visit characteristics, as well as demographic…
Relationship Between Quality Improvement Implementation and Accreditation Seeking in Local Health Departments
Objectives. We examined the relationship between quality improvement (QI) maturity and accreditation attributes of US local health departments (LHDs), specifically those in Nebraska. Methods. Using 2011 Nebraska LHD QI survey data, we conducted Spearman correlation analyses between QI maturity domains and accreditation attributes. Using the 2010 National Association of County and City Health Officials’ National Profile of LHDs, we conducted logis…
Use of Health Services by Chinese Elderly in Beijing
OBJECTIVES: This article provides an inquiry into use of health services by the elderly. METHODS: The authors operationalize models of use with a survey of 350 elderly Chinese. Because the survey involves native Chinese, the empirical test can isolate functional social support as well as "structural" social supports (marriage, living with children). RESULTS: The principal findings comport with prior work: the strongest determinants of the use of …
