Dietary Patterns in Chinese Americans are Associated with Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors, the Chinese American Cardiovascular Health Assessment (CHA CHA)
The UAE healthy future study
The pilot study demonstrated the feasibility of recruitment and completion of the study protocols for the first large-scale cohort study designed to identify emerging risk factors for the major non-communicable diseases in the region
Opportunities and Challenges in Precision Medicine
Asian American Dietary Sources of Sodium and Salt Behaviors Compared with Other Racial/Ethnic Groups, NHANES, 2011-2012
Mean sodium consumption and sources vary across racial/ethnic groups with highest consumption in Asian Americans. Given the smaller number of food categories contributing to sodium intake in Asian Americans, results imply that targeted activities on a few food items would have a large impact on reducing sodium intake in this group
Perceived Similarity and Third-Person Effect
We compared the perceptions of Korean Americans, Koreans in the US, and Koreans in Korea, of the media coverage of the fatal shooting of 32 people at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in April 2007. This comparison was based on the third-person effect, according to which people perceive media coverage to have a greater influence on others than on themselves. Results showed that perception of individuals in the participant groups…
P1-355 Long-term PM 2.5 air pollution exposure and mortality among California residents in the NIH-Aarp cohort
Introduction Epidemiological studies indicate that exposure to fine particulate matter air pollution mass (PM 2.5 ) is associated with an increased risk of premature mortality. Pope et al (2002, 2004) reported elevated mortality risks of long-term PM 2.5 exposure in the USA nationwide American Cancer Society (ACS) CP-II cohort, finding a total mortality risk of RR=1.04 per 10 ug/m 3 (95% CI 1.01 to 1.08), and a cardiovascular mortality RR=1.12 pe…
