  • Suicide prevention randomized controlled trial pilot

Open Access•Lauren Kenneally, Natalie Riblet et al.•ARTICLE•Rural Mental Health•2026

Objective: Suicide is a concern in rural veterans, particularly following acute mental health admission. Rural veterans can experience barriers accessing treatment, including mental health treatment. The MISSION Act of 2018 aims to alleviate some challenges through access to Community Care, which has since raised concerns about suicide prevention effort discrepancies and barriers between Veterans Affairs (VA) and non-VA providers. Despite concern…

  • Adult friendship and suicidality

Open Access•Susan Stevens, Brian Shiner et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Personal…•2025•References: 8

Despite the role friendship can play in the physical and mental health of adults, little is known about its relationship with suicidality. To address this gap, we conducted a scoping review on adult friendship and suicidality in Medline, PsycInfo, and the Cochrane Library from inception to April 9, 2024. We used a combination of keywords and MeSH terms to find studies reporting on the themes of suicidality and adult friendship. We summarized key …

    Open Access•Fran H Norris, Susan Stevens et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Community…•2008•Cited by: 341•References: 100

Communities have the potential to function effectively and adapt successfully in the aftermath of disasters. Drawing upon literatures in several disciplines, we present a theory of resilience that encompasses contemporary understandings of stress, adaptation, wellness, and resource dynamics. Community resilience is a process linking a network of adaptive capacities (resources with dynamic attributes) to adaptation after a disturbance or adversity…

  • Cognitive processing therapy for veterans with military-related posttraumatic stress disorder

    Candice M Monson, Paula P Schnurr et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Consulting and…•2006•Cited by: 32•References: 3

Sixty veterans (54 men, 6 women) with chronic military-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) participated in a wait-list controlled trial of cognitive processing therapy (CPT). The overall dropout rate was 16.6% (20% from CPT, 13% from waiting list). Random regression analyses of the intention-to-treat sample revealed significant improvements in PTSD and comorbid symptoms in the CPT condition compared with the wait-list condition. Forty pe…
