  • Organic stable carbon isotopic composition reveals late Quaternary vegetation changes in the dune fields of northern China

Open Access•Huayu Lu, Yali Zhou et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2012

Vegetation changes during the late Quaternary in the dune fields of northern China are not well understood. We investigated organic carbon stable isotopic composition of surface soils, related mainly to the ratio of C 3 and C 4 plants, across a range of arid to subhumid climates in this region. Isotopic composition is weakly related to both temperature and moisture (multiple R 2 = 0.53), with the highest δ 13 C (greatest C 4 abundance) in the war…

  • Holocene climatic changes revealed by aeolian deposits from the Qinghai Lake area (northeastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau) and possible forcing mechanisms

    Open Access•Huayu Lu, Cunfa Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2010•Cited by: 6•References: 9

Previous palaeoclimatic studies in the northeastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (NETP) during the Holocene, mainly using lake sediments, have deepened our understanding of the climatic system in this remote region. The timing and forcing mechanisms of climatic change in this region are still controversial, however. Aeolian sand and silt deposits, which are widely distributed in the NETP, can be readily dated by optically stimulated luminescence (OSL)…

  • Loess record of dry climate and aeolian activity in the early-to mid-Holocene, central Great Plains, North America

    Open Access•Xiaodong Miao, Joseph Mason et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2005•Cited by: 4•References: 4

Thick Holocene Bignell Loess sections provide new evidence for the timing of early to middle Holocene aridity in the central Great Plains. The immediate source of loess in these sections was dune fields just upwind, based on thickness trends and grain size data. Thus, periods of rapid loess accumulation indicate episodes of extensive dune activity under drier-than-present climate. In typical Bignell Loess sections, a thick zone of coarse-textured…

  • Motivational underpinnings of romantic partner perceptions

Open Access•Glenn Geher, Ryan Bloodworth et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Personal…•2005•Cited by: 11•References: 28

This research examined biases in perceptions of current versus former romantic partners. Study 1 employed individuals in dating relationships ( N = 161) and examined whether perceptions of current partners' traits differed from perceptions of former partners' traits. We computed an index of a 'partner discrepancy bias' (PDB). PDB was related to relationship satisfaction. Study 2 assessed the motivational underpinnings of the PDB. We used a standa…

  • Session 5b

Open Access•Joseph Mason, Joseph R Mason et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Economic History•2001

Bernanke suggested that the source of credit-channel effects lies in the longevity of credit disruptions. The investigate how the duration of credit-channel effects influenced macro-economic activity during the Great Depression, we employ the amortized stock of deposits in closed banks, which contains information about the time it takes to rehabilitate insolvent debtors or liquidate their collateral. As found by Bernanke and others, vector autore…
