Distortion as a Function of the Number of Factors Rotated under Varying Levels of Common Variance and Error
This study examined the effects of under and overrotation on common factor loading stability under three levels of common variance and three levels of error. Four representative factor matrices were selected. In each case, the factor matrix was adjusted to account for 30%, 45%, and 60% of common variance. Each of the adjusted matrices was postmultiplied by its transpose and the intercorrelation matrix obtained was factor analyzed to obtain the cr…
A Computer Program to Relate Factors Across Separately Factor Analyzed Variable Domains
A computer program written in FORTRAN IV is presented which will cross-correlate least squares estimated factor scores across separately factor analyzed variable domains without the tedious necessity of actually calculating the factor scores. Canonical correlations, associated redundancy statistics, and tests of independence for the reduced domains are also output. Documentation is provided
Relating Multidimensional Sets of Variables: Canonical Correlation or Factor Analysis
Several prominent multivariate psychological methodologists recommend the use of canonical correlation to relate multidimensional sets of variables. This method along with separate factor analyses of the sets is considered in relation to the questions they may be able to answer on a specific research problem. Alternate analyses of data from the social sciences illustrate the value of common factor analysis compared with canonical analysis as a me…

Comparison of Three Methods of Handling Missing Observations
With large-scale data collection stimulated by computer analysis the problem of what to do about missing observarions on Ss arises more often. In a research project by Turner, Guertin, and Cooper' correlations of GPA with 10 achievement rest scores were computed three ways because of missing scores for some Ss: ( a ) insert the mean score for that variable, ( b ) insert a multiple regression estimate, and ( c ) omit that S from the calculation. R…

The War on Poverty and the Social Origins and Training of Education Students
Updating the Internal Criterion of Item Analysis
The adequacy of total score as the internal criterion for item analysis is reviewed and criticized. An iterative computation of the internal criterion based upon items retained at the end of each cycle is proposed and illustrated with a computer program. Items rejected in the first analysis constituted the pool for a second dimensional analysis

Constellations of Religious Attitudes of Paranoid Schizophrenics
Some years ago Chaplain Boisen ( 1 ) wrote, conclusion follows that certain types of mental disorder and certain types of religious experience are alike attempts at reorganization. He has devoted his life to this thesis and has profoundly influenced today's psychiatric thinking in this area.
