Investigating the mediating role of self-regulation in the association between smartphone addiction and academic performance: A nationally representative study of Taiwanese students from primary to un…
This study examines the mediating role of self-regulation in the relationship between smartphone addiction and academic performance across four educational levels (primary, middle, high school, and university) in a large sample of 6,154 Taiwanese students. The results show that self-regulation attenuates the negative effect of smartphone addiction on academic achievement, but this indirect pathway is contingent on age and gender. Specifically, ge…

Ready to Do OpenCourseWare? A Comparative Study of Taiwan College Faculty
This study aimed to address the teaching readiness issues of OpenCourseWare (OCW). Specifically, the research goal was to examine Taiwanese college faculty members’ level of teaching readiness for OCW via a questionnaire named “Teaching Readiness Scale for OCW” (TRS-OCW). A total of 142 Taiwanese college faculty members both with and without OCW teaching experience participated in this study. The results showed that faculty members with OCW teach…
A multigroup analysis of factors underlying teachers’ technostress and their continuance intention toward online teaching
How teens negotiate privacy on social media proactively and reactively
Privacy management can be dichotomized into proactive and reactive behaviors. The former indicates avoiding information leakage beforehand. The latter occurs in the form of recovery efforts and it thus involves interpersonal dynamics. Past studies often focus on proactive privacy management without taking social interaction into account. The current study adopts coping and threat appraisal in the Protection Motivation Theory to compare the factor…
Online learning performance and satisfaction: Do perceptions and readiness matter?
The current study proposes a comprehensive structural model to determine whether online learning perceptions and online learning readiness affect students’ online learning performance and course satisfaction. A questionnaire was voluntarily completed by 356 undergraduate students enrolled in a cross-campus, general education, asynchronous online course in Taiwan. The structural equation modeling analyses indicated that students’ computer/Internet…

Developing hypertext-based learning courseware for computer networks: The macro and micro stages
In order to design and develop hypertext-based learning courseware for computer networks, one needs to know human learning processes and how hypertext can be used to facilitate learning, to be aware of appropriate instructional theories and models to guide design processes, and to consider pedagogical issues. The instructional systems development approach and the elaboration theory of instruction are introduced as the macro and micro stages of de…
Structural and navigational analysis of hypermedia courseware
In addition to providing flexible access to instructional information and supporting convenient learning styles, educational hypermedia offers a nonsequential information presentation that markedly differs from conventional instructional systems. Many pedagogical issues are attributed to the nonlinear structures of educational hypermedia systems. Consequently, an ideal educational hypermedia system should provide navigation guidance, knowledge co…
