    The introduction of pizzas to the Australian public in the twentieth century offers an opportunity to study the growth of meanings of a new word for a relatively novel type of food in the Australian setting.     Posture verbs have attracted considerable interest within Cognitive Linguistics. This study continues this line of research by investigating usage-based patterns associated with these verbs when used in their literal posture senses. The data for the study comes from the Lancaster Corpus of Mandarin Chinese and the CALLHOME Mandarin Corpus.   • Mandarin chī ‘eat’ sentences in elicitation and corpus data

    When collected methodically through elicitation experiments, invented examples prompted by a cue word provide evidence for how speakers think about that word.
