    Open Access•Park, Sara Park•ARTICLE•Critical Sociology•2026

  • Finding out the Differences: Identification of Koreans in Colonial Korea and Discrimination as Exclusion

    Open Access•Sara Park, S K Park•ARTICLE•Japanese Sociological Review•2024

    Open Access•Park, Sara Park•ARTICLE•Race & Class•2017•Cited by: 2

This paper, which examines a growing problem of popular racism in Japan against ethnic minorities, especially Koreans, is critical of the way in which it is often being passed off as xenophobia. The author argues that to confront the current racism means coming to terms with Japan's colonial past and also the immigration control system which labels all ethnic minorities, including those born in Japan during and following imperial conquest, as 'fo…

  • “Who Are You?”: The Making of Korean “Illegal Entrants” in Occupied Japan 1945–1952

    Open Access•Park, Sara Park•ARTICLE•International Journal of Japanese…•2016

Recent progress in the study of migration history in Japan has cast new light on the influx of Koreans to Japan just after the end of the Second World War in August 1945. Both the Japanese Government and the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers called this migration illegal entry or smuggling, and tried to suppress it., One important question remains to be solved about this migration; namely; how was it prohibited?
