  • Metric Variation in Pliopithecoid Mandibular Molars From the Late Miocene Fossil Locality of Rudabánya, Hungary

Open Access•Faye McGechie, Lucas K Delezene et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Biological…•2026

  • The influence of climate and population structure on East Asian skeletal morphology

    Open Access•Elizabeth O Cho, L W Cowgill et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Evolution•2022•Cited by: 3•References: 94

  • Estimating peak height velocity in individuals

    Open Access•Melanie E Boeyer, Kevin M Middleton et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2020

  • Estimating peak height velocity in individuals

    Open Access•Melanie E Boeyer, Kevin M Middleton et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2020

Each statistical methodology has a number of advantages when used for specific purposes. For modelling growth in individuals, as one would in paediatric clinical practice, we recommend the use of the 5th order polynomial methodology due to its parameter flexibility

  • Integration involves a trade-off between fertility and status for World War II evacuees

    Open Access•Robert Lynch, M Rius-riepen et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Human Behaviour•2019•Cited by: 2•References: 51

Understanding how refugees integrate into host societies has broad implications for researchers interested in intergroup conflict and for governments concerned with promoting social cohesion. Using detailed records tracking the movements and life histories of Finnish evacuees during World War II, we find that evacuees who intermarry are more likely to be educated, work in professional occupations, marry someone higher in social status and remain …

  • Reply to Ruff, Warden, and Karlson

    Open Access•Sarah J Peacock, T Garland et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2018•Cited by: 1•References: 16

  • Predicting the bending properties of long bones

    Open Access•Sarah J Peacock, Brittney R Coats et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2018•Cited by: 4•References: 107

Objectives Analyses of bone cross‐sectional geometry are frequently used by anthropologists and paleontologists to infer the loading histories of past populations. To address some underlying assumptions, we investigated the relative roles of genetics and exercise on bone cross‐sectional geometry and bending mechanics in three mouse strains: high bone density (C3H/He), low bone density (C57BL/6), and a high‐runner strain homozygous for the Myh4 Mi…

  • Functional significance of genetic variation underlying limb bone diaphyseal structure

    Open Access•Ian J Wallace, Kevin M Middleton et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2010•Cited by: 22•References: 78

Limb bone diaphyseal structure is frequently used to infer hominin activity levels from skeletal remains, an approach based on the well‐documented ability of bone to adjust to its loading environment during life. However, diaphyseal structure is also determined in part by genetic factors. This study investigates the possibility that genetic variation underlying diaphyseal structure is influenced by the activity levels of ancestral populations and…
