Emerging themes and reflections from the 10th International Outdoor Education Research Conference, Japan
The International Outdoor Education Research Conference (IOERC) series connects outdoor educators across the globe and continues to progress in impact and reach. This paper aims to summarise key insights from the 10th IOERC and foster continued growth and collaboration with international outdoor education authors. Conceptualisations and implications of ‘newness’ in education outside the classroom
Newness was a key theme identified in a comprehensive national study of education outside the classroom (EOTC) in Aotearoa New Zealand. This paper examines what newness means from the perspectives of students, educators and school leaders. The Contribution Transport Time Makes to Outdoor Programs
Background: During transport to and from outdoor education field trips, students experience a period of togetherness and minimal imposed structure. Transport time also appears to align with Oldenburg’s third places, where people spend time together without a particular agenda. This study evaluates the economic contribution of international freedom campers to New Zealand over the period 1997–2018. The rugged landscape of central Arizona has been ethnographically and historically documented as a Western Apache homeland. Despite more than 400 years of occupation, our understanding of the period before A.D. 1850 remains poorly known, and the archaeological record has attracted little directed research. The Megalithic Tomb of Pedra Branca, Portugal. Preliminary Report
The megalithic tomb of Pedra Branca lies at Montum, on the west coast of Portugal about 140 kilometers south of Lisbon by road (fig. 1). The tomb is the first in Portugal to have yielded Beaker graves overlying earlier burials; prior to its discovery, no Beaker remains had ever been noted further south than Palmela, in the estuary of the Sado river, approximately 40 kilometers from Lisbon.
