Utopia
Mark Stephen Jendrysik’s Utopia is an introduction to utopianism as a genre of literary and political writing; it consists of eight chapters and 135 pages including references and index. Thus, as a type of book, it echoes to varying degrees Marie Louise Berneri’s Journey Through Utopia (1950), Robert C. Elliott’s The Shape of Utopia (1970), and Lyman Tower Sargent’s Utopia: A Very Short Introduction (2010). Shorter introductions invite comparison…
To Save Whom They Can
Henry Chadwick proposed in the 1960s that Philo's Questions and Answers in Genesis 4.69 is important for understanding Paul's mission strategy in 1 Cor 9. In 2011 David J. My Dear Legs
Excavations at Lochmaben Castle, Dumfriesshire
The importance of Lochmaben lies in its strategic position. Due to forest and marsh, a traveller to Scotland from Carlisle found it necessary to travel up Annandale and then branch off either westwards for Galloway or north-east for Edinburgh. In either event, it was necessary to travel first as far as Lochmaben. It is not surprising therefore that, when the Brus family motte was destroyed by the river at Annan (Reid 1954, 59), the Brus moved his…
