Should Danish be considered a satellite-framed language
The aim of this article is to discuss from a critical perspective whether the notion of S(atellite)-framed languages makes sense when applied to Danish. It is claimed that considering the encoding of Path the central organizational factor that determines motion event expression in Danish, does not render a balanced typological image of this language. The main arguments put forward to support this criticism are the following: (i) the notion of S-f…
Challenging Economic Journalism
This book proposes a framework for economic journalism, arguing that independent journalism is essential for a functioning market and democracy.
Schematicity vs. lexicality
The aim of this article is to demonstrate how Danish and Spanish from a typological, cross-linguistic perspective differ systematically from each other both within the domain of verbal lexicalization patterns related to the encoding of the semantic components Motion, Manner and Path and in terms of the predicate formation strategies dominating the two languages. First, on the basis of a contrastive analysis between the Spanish Motion-Path conflat…
From partner to rival
Western countries’ relations with China are characterised by a dichotomy of partnership and conflict, of rapprochement and demarcation. To date, research lacks longitudinal studies that examine how these economic and political tendencies become manifest in the image of China conveyed by Western media. Taking Germany as an example, this study aims to shed light on the development of China coverage in print media between 2000 and 2019. Following a …
Si…
The determining role of manner in linguistic event framing
L'article établit qu'un facteur-clé dans l'explication de la différence typologique entre langues germaniques et romanes est le rôle sémantique du composant manière dans l'encodage linguistique des événements. Des analyses de données, relevant principalement du danois et de l'espagnol, montrent que les verbes de manière, en exploitant entre autres leur potentiel télique, constituent le prédicat premier dans une grande variété de structures. En es…

Bare nouns in Danish with special reference to the object position
Based on a discussion of correlations between syntactic position, prosodic cues, aspect and generic vs. non-generic interpretations, this paper substantiates that Danish Bare Plural count nouns (BPs) have a wider distribution than Bare Singular count nouns (BSs). BPs, unlike BSs, can occur in subject position, function as both generic and existential arguments, and appear with all aspectual verb classes. However, BPs and BSs expressing a non-gene…
Lexical coding vs. syntactic marking of homogeneity
The purpose of this article is to substantiate the claim that the semantic feature of homogeneity manifests itself differently in different languages. By contrasting data from Spanish and Danish it is shown that homogeneity is lexically coded in Danish nouns, whereas Spanish nouns are lexically neutral to homogeneity. In Spanish the homogeneity interpretation of nouns is determined when they are inserted into a syntactic structure. The empirical …
