Funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and Emory University, the Linguistics atlas of the Gulf is a comprehensive study of speech variations in an eight-state region (Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and eastern Texas).
