The role of script in Kyrgyz identity
Presently, Kyrgyzstan remains the last former Soviet Turkic-speaking Central Asian Republic to use Cyrillic script with the possibility of undergoing Latinization. Our study investigates the attitudes of Kyrgyz speakers toward the present use of Cyrillic in Kyrgyzstan and a potential transition to Latin script. Divergent Perspectives on Identifying Heritage Speakers
Enhancing social resilience
This study introduces an innovative framework for assessing social resilience based on social archetypes, moving beyond traditional methods that often analyse social groups based on socio-economic or socio-demographic factors. By incorporating psychographic dimensions such as individual capacities and perceptions, which are more stable over time than socio-economic or socio-demographic characteristics, our approach aims to identify social archety…
Heritage learners are more sensitive to effects of script
Designing Urban Green Spaces for Older Adults in Asian Cities
Elderly populations in Asian countries are expected to increase rapidly in the next few decades. Older adults, particularly in high-density cities, spend a considerable amount of time in urban green spaces (UGSs). The World Health Organization noted that UGSs are key to improving the age-friendliness of neighborhoods. Thus, it is necessary to design UGSs for the promotion of healthy ageing to enhance preventive healthcare and relieve medical burd…
Processing of Phonemic Consonant Length
Six cross-modal lexical decision tasks with priming probed listeners’ processing of the geminate–singleton contrast in Bengali, where duration alone leads to phonemic contrast ([pata] ‘leaf’ vs. [pat:a] ‘whereabouts’), in order to investigate the phonological representation of consonantal duration in the lexicon. Four form-priming experiments (auditory fragment primes and visual targets) were designed to investigate listeners’ sensitivity to segm…
