Are Terrorists Model Citizens? An Account of Political Culture Through Ecological Psychology
The aim of this paper is to provide a novel as well as radical perspective that helps to elucidate the fundamental function civic values fulfil within society through an embodied model that provides a framework, both theoretical and practical, for the shaping of the subject's political culture and habits. We examine the cognitive basis of the notion of civic values and rational choice theory, arguing that, when confronted with the “terrorist dile…
Protecting Vulnerable Respondents
This paper offers a comprehensive analysis of the statistical disclosure limitation (SDL) methodologies employed by the U.S. Census Bureau on the 2010 and 2020 Decennial Census releases under the perspective of the disclosure risk of the most vulnerable respondents. I see actions. Affordances and the expressive role of perceptual judgments
Originally formulated as a theory of perception, ecological psychology has shown in recent decades an increasing interest in language. However, a comprehensive approach to language by ecological psychology has not yet been developed, as there is neither a naturalist philosophy of language nor one that takes ecological psychology as its scientific background. Our goal here is to argue that a subject naturalist and non-factualist framework can open…
De la praxis a la doxa
Public organizations have faced the need to incorporate new knowledge and expertise in public management. One of the mechanisms formulated long ago has been the use of Advisory and Consulting services as a mechanism for knowledge transfer and capacity building. However, the use of these services does not to be as widespread as the use of their words. Added to this is the lack of an adequate conceptual development of these terms, so it is common t…
American cultural regions mapped through the lexical analysis of social media
Cultural areas represent a useful concept that cross-fertilizes diverse fields in social sciences. Knowledge of how humans organize and relate their ideas and behavior within a society can help us to understand our actions and attitudes toward different issues. However, the selection of common traits that shape a cultural area is somewhat arbitrary. What is needed is a method that can leverage the massive amounts of data coming online, especially…
The Text Anonymization Benchmark (TAB)
We present a novel benchmark and associated evaluation metrics for assessing the performance of text anonymization methods. Text anonymization, defined as the task of editing a text document to prevent the disclosure of personal information, currently suffers from a shortage of privacy-oriented annotated text resources, making it difficult to properly evaluate the level of privacy protection offered by various anonymization methods. This paper pr…
Does Teaching Your Native Language Abroad Increase L1 Attrition of Speech? The Case of Spaniards in the United Kingdom
The present study examines the perceived L1 accent of two groups of native Spaniards in the United Kingdom, Spanish teachers, and non-teachers, alongside monolingual controls in Spain. While the bilingual groups were carefully matched on a range of background variables, the teachers used Spanish significantly more at work where they constantly need to co-activate it alongside English. This allowed us to test the relative effect of reduced L1 use …
