  • Late-Holocene stability and recent changes in small mammal communities in north-central Andean forests of Patagonia

    Open Access•Analía Andrade, Pablo Teta et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2024•References: 9

Past and current climatic and environmental changes have contributed to configure actual species distributions and abundances. Knowing their evolution over time allows discrimination between natural and anthropogenic causes in current composition of faunal communities. We evaluate the changes in small mammal assemblages from the north-central Patagonian Andean forests since the Late-Holocene to recent times and their relationship with the environ…

Hombres, mujeres, n…

  • Key to cranial and mandibular remains of non-flying small mammals from southern South America

    Open Access•Daniel E Udrizar Sauthier, Anahí E Formoso et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2020•Cited by: 2•References: 5

  • Human Processing of Rodents in Patagonia

    Open Access•Analía Andrade•ARTICLE•Open Access Journal of…•2019

The consumption of small mammals was a widespread practice between indigenous societies worldwide. Modern taphonomic studies carried out upon bone assemblages from archaeological sites in northern Patagonia (Argentina) demonstrate that Caviomorph rodents were also included in the diet of Patagonian populations, both from the steppe and the forests, at least since the Late Holocene

  • Puma and livestock in central Patagonia (Argentina)

Romina Llanos, Analía Andrade et al.•ARTICLE•Human Dimensions of Wildlife•2019

We analyzed surveys from 383 ranchers to determine their perceptions of puma damage in Chubut province (Central Patagonia). Thirty-two percent of respondents had a negative perception, while 65% were neutral. Negative perceptions increased: (a) with the breeding of mixed livestock, (b) with the presence of neighboring inactive, and (c) in small and medium ranches. Our results showed that ranchers use both lethal control and non-lethal methods (re…

  • Distinguishing between cultural and natural depositional agents

    Open Access•Analía Andrade•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2015•Cited by: 10•References: 21

  • Explotación de roedores por las sociedades cazadoras-recolectoras de Patagonia durante el Holoceno tardío

    Open Access•Analía Andrade, M a Teresa BOSCHÍN•ARTICLE•Zephyrvs•2015•Cited by: 5•References: 11

The small mammals observed in the archaeological records made us think about the way they were exploited and the extension of these practices in Patagonia, continental and insular. This paper proposes that some species of Caviomorpha rodents were intensively exploited by hunter-gatherers societies who lived in Patagonia since late Holocene. Bones, meat and skin of the animals were used. From the available documentation it has been possible to sta…
