  • Irish Traveller communities and energy poverty: Methodological reflections on human-centred and community-based research

    Open Access•Michelle O’Keeffe, Michelle O'Keeffe et al.•ARTICLE•Energy Research & Social Science•2026

Energy poverty disproportionately affects marginalised communities across Europe yet remains poorly understood among groups whose housing arrangements and cultural relationships to ‘home’ fall outside mainstream policy assumptions. Irish Travellers, a distinct ethnic minority with a nomadic heritage, face acute energy vulnerability in mobile dwellings that are excluded from national retrofit programmes. • Reactions to Imagery Generated Using Computational Aesthetic Measures

Prasad Gade, Mary Galvin et al.•ARTICLE•Leonardo•2017•Cited by: 1•References: 2

This article examines whether textural generation system imagery evolved with computational aesthetic support can be judged as having aesthetic attributes, both when knowing and not knowing its true origin. Such a generation, depicting a digital landscape, is offered to two groups of participants to appraise. It is hypothesized that there will be no statistically significant difference between the groups on their appraisal of the image. Results f…

  • Participating in urban myths about women's rural water struggles

    Mary Galvin, Mary E Galvin•ARTICLE•Agenda•2011•Cited by: 1•References: 6

It argues that change in rural areas, that would most affect rural women's realities, is not simply a technical matter as ofte…

  • The Politics of Decentralisation and Donor Funding in South Africa's Rural Water Sector

Mary Galvin, Mary E Galvin et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Southern African Studies•2003•Cited by: 3

Decentralisation appeals to actors across the political spectrum and has become a cornerstone of development orthodoxy. Although the new South African government has adopted a range of policies that promote decentralisation, competing tendencies toward centralisation have become increasingly evident. This article examines how donors have supported decentralisation in South Africa, how they have affected the implementation of decentralisation poli…
