Proficiency‐Driven Pathways of the Acquisition and Functional Expansion of English Participles: Evidence From L2 Learners Across L1 Backgrounds
Despite their importance to English grammar, participles are consistently underused by L2 learners. This large‐scale, corpus‐based study investigates their acquisition across proficiency levels by analyzing 12,100 essays from learners with 11 different L1 backgrounds. Utilizing participle distribution analysis and dependency parsing, our findings reveal that proficiency is a stronger predictor of participle use than L1 transfer. Present participl…
An Automated Identification Method of Disturbance Ranges of Surface Coal Mines on Vegetation Based on the Fitting of NDVI Spatial Trajectory
Accurately and efficiently identifying the vegetation disturbance ranges in surface coal mines is of great significance for determining the scope of land degradation and mitigating land degradation. The objective of this article is to propose an automated method for identifying disturbance ranges of surface coal mines on vegetation based on the fitting of NDVI spatial trajectory (called Disran_SpaTFit). The process of the proposed method includes…
Cue Competition and Cognitive Mechanisms in Causal Subordinator Acquisition by Chinese EFL Learners
This research investigates linguistic contextual cue competition in the choice of causal subordinators among Chinese EFL learners, focusing on both linguistic and cognitive dimensions. We employ multivariate analysis of corpora of learners’ argumentative essays to identify significant cues influencing their choices between “ because” and “ since .” Our findings indicate that, similar to native speakers, learners rely on multiple contextual cues, …
Socio-cognitive influences on translating forward causal connectives: A multivariate analysis of English translations of Tao Te Ching
Salience-simplification strategy for markedness of causal subordinators: Because" and "since" in argumentative essays
