  • Development of Fewer Falls in MS —An Online, Theory‐Based, Fall Prevention Self‐Management Programme for People With Multiple Sclerosis

Open Access•Susanna Tuvemo Johnson, Charlotte Ytterberg et al.•ARTICLE•Health Expectations•2024

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to describe the process used to develop a theory-based, online fall prevention self-management programme for ambulatory and non-ambulatory people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS). METHODS: The development process was guided by the Medical Research Council framework of complex interventions and began with a scoping review of the literature on self-management of falls in pwMS. Subsequent phases of development were…

  • Language Abilities in Neanderthals

    Sverker Johansson•ARTICLE•Annual Review of Linguistics•2014•Cited by: 9•References: 70

Neanderthal language abilities cannot be directly observed, but indirect evidence is available in their anatomy, archeology, and DNA. Neanderthal anatomy shows possible speech adaptations, and their archeology contains enough indicators of behavioral modernity, including symbols and ornaments, to conclude that their minds could handle symbolic communication. Neanderthal DNA, finally, indicates both that they possessed some of the language-relevan…

  • The thinking Neanderthals

    Open Access•Sverker Johansson•ARTICLE•WIREs Cognitive Science•2014•Cited by: 5•References: 38

The study of Neanderthal cognition is difficult, because of the archaeological invisibility of cognition, and because of the methodological issues that arise both from that invisibility and from their being close to modern humans. Nevertheless, fair progress has been made in gathering relevant evidence. There is now good evidence that Neanderthals were cognitively sophisticated, displaying many of the cognitive traits that were traditionally rega…

  • The Talking Neanderthals

    Open Access•Sverker Johansson•ARTICLE•Biolinguistics•2013•Cited by: 10•References: 28

Did Neanderthals have language? This issue has been debated back and forth for decades, without resolution. But in recent years new evidence has become available. New fossils and archeological finds cast light on relevant Neanderthal anatomy and behavior. New DNA evidence, both fossil and modern, provides clues both to the relationship between Neanderthals and Homo sapiens, and to the genetics of language. In this paper, I review and evaluate the…
