Clinical Application of Custom Neck Collar with Negative Sensory Feedback in Children with Intractable Torticollis
This study demonstrated the feasibility, therapeutic effect, and safety of a novel tactile feedback orthosis for the treatment of children with torticollis. The use of a custom neck collar with negative sensory feedback may be a viable therapeutic option for the treatment of unresolved or intractable torticollis
A Comparative Study of 2-Hour Interface Pressure in Different Angles of Laterally Inclined, Supine, and Fowler’s Position
Insufficient research exists for position change intervals to eradicate pressure ulcers. We tried to provide evidence for the position change interval by comparing peak pressure, risk area ratio, and the time to reach 30 mmHg and 60 mmHg, and presented this in detail, according to the angle in the three positions. The study conducted RCTs on a total of 64 healthy adults. For two hours, interface pressure measurements were compared with 30° and 90…
Structural Model of Professional Socialization of Nursing Students With Clinical Practice Experience
BACKGROUND: This study developed a structural model of the professional socialization of nursing students with clinical practice experience and tested its validity based on Meleis's transition theory. METHOD: Participants were third- and fourth-year nursing students with at least one semester of clinical experience. Cross-sectional data from 412 participants were analyzed. RESULTS: The goodness of fit of the model was satisfactory. Regarding the …
Blood Lead Concentrations and Mortality in Korean Adults: The Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey with Mortality Follow-Up
Previous studies have consistently reported an increase in mortality risk, even at low levels of blood lead. The average blood lead concentration in the Korean population has steadily decreased but is still higher than that of developed countries. The purpose of this study was to examine the associations between mortality and blood lead concentrations for adults in Korea. We used the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2008-20…
The Functional and Morphological Changes of the Cervical Intervertebral Disc after Applying Lordotic Curve Controlled Traction: A Double-Blind Randomized Controlled Study
The newly developed cervical lordotic curve-controlled traction (C-LCCT) appears to be an ideal method to improve the treatment outcome in patients with cervical intervertebral disc disease. The purpose of this study was to investigate the treatment outcomes of C-LCCT including the functional and morphological changes of the cervical intervertebral disc compared to traditional traction (TT) with a randomized controlled trial design. A total of 40…
A Processing Approach to Complex NP Island Effects in Korean
Questioning the syntactic assumptions of Island effects on movement operations, this paper investigates, through an acceptability judgment experiment with native Korean speakers, whether wh-in-situ questions in Korean show Complex Noun Phrase (CNP) Islands effects, and if so, what causes them? The results of the experiment indicate that the acceptability of wh-in-situ questions with a CNPC violation in Korean shows a wide range of variation and t…
A note on sluicing with implicit indefinite correlates
A Discourse Analysis Approach to the Sluicing Conundrum
With a critical review of previous analyses on sluicing construction, this study points out problems with structural analyses on sluicing and demonstrates a way to retrieve putative sources for the elided portion in sluicing, minimizing the complexity of deriving sluicing constructions. This paper focuses on so called connectivity effects that constitute a prima facie piece of evidence of movement of the sluice out of a sentential constituent. Mu…
A Language Typology in Anaphoric Dependency: Evidence from Chinese, English, Japanese, Icelandic, and Korean
This paper reviews the Prominence Hierarchy in Kim (1998, 2000a, 2000b) that were proposed to compute a different degree of preference when there is more than one option for anaphor interpretations. Employing the parameterized definition of a potential anaphor in a given language, this paper extends its basic spirit to interpretations of anaphors in other languages such as English, Icelandic, Japanese and Chinese
Acceptability and preference in the interpretation of anaphors
The purpose of this paper is to consider how the preference in the interpretation of anaphors and their distribution properties can interact and be best explained. To reach the goal, this paper presents the prominence hierarchy for computing a different degree of preference when there is more than one option for anaphor interpretations. This paper also argues that the coreferential possibility between the Korean anaphor caki and its antecedent is…
