This special issue is the result of a collective effort sustained over time and across borders, seeking to generate dialogue around the production and circulation of knowledge on penality in the global peripheries. This endeavour intentionally seeks to decentre the descriptive and interpretative frameworks concerning the penal past and present that have been constructed around the processes and dynamics of central contexts.Such frameworks have not…

Open Access•Ruchi Sinha, Srilatha Juvva•ARTICLE•The British Journal of Social Work•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 8

This article applies a quantitative analysis of gender diversity variables to custom data sets of 2011 and 2016 Australian Bureau of Statistics Census data for Film, TV and Radio employment. Prima facie, employment figures across a whole sector or employment segment can appear to be broadly representative of the Australian population, but looking more closely, it becomes apparent that the 'devil is in the level'. Although there is often parity at…

    Ruchi Sinha•ARTICLE•Practice•2012•References: 5

The article discusses the need for social work practice in police stations. The first part presents the current state of the Indian Criminal Justice System (CJS). The next section situates CJS within the mandate of a welfare state. The issues related to policing and corrections in the country precede the section elucidating the role of and challenges faced by a social worker in the police station. It suggests that Social Work practice within the …
