Students’ peer network quality
Guided by self-determination theory, this study explored the impact of students’ peer network quality (i.e., student-to-student connectedness, loneliness, and peer relationship types) on resilience and likelihood to persist. Participants (N = 229) reported that they primarily developed collegial or informational peers in the university setting, that loneliness was negatively related to academic resilience, and peer connectedness was positively re…
The role of different screen media devices, child dysregulation, and parent screen media use in children’s self-regulation
Higher TV exposure has been repeatedly linked to poorer self-regulation among young children. Recent studies show that the use of mobile screen media devices is also negatively related to self-regulation in early childhood. Despite the proliferation of mobile devices in households with young children, it is unclear whether children’s use of smartphones and tablets predicts their self-regulation independently of TV use and parents’ screen media us…
Research use and publishing diversity
Digital technologies have enhanced the capacity for organisations across many sectors to produce, publish, and disseminate research in a variety of formats, and a great deal of it is sought and used in public policy and practice‐related research, yet this diversity is often overlooked in studies of research use. While the need for diverse research sources and formats for public policy and practice is increasingly acknowledged, there have been few…
The Power of Intersectionality to Transcend National Identity in the United States
Since the mid‐1800s, when the early women's movement began in the United States, Women of Colour have been marginalized by white Feminists. The ‘waves of Feminism’ frame the movement by marking changes in American history that benefit white women while excluding the diverse and unequal experiences of Non‐white women. It is necessary to re‐evaluate the history of women in America and the many ways in which Non‐white women shape the Feminist dialog…

Electronic Documents in a Print World
Reports and documents from government and other organisations have existed for centuries, but in the post-war period their production increased significantly. Computers, databases, desktop publishing software and the internet have revolutionised the ways documents can be produced and disseminated, allowing individuals, groups and organisations access to a whole new world of information. The result has been an explosion in online publishing that h…
Quakerism and Approaches to Mental Affliction
This study compares the healing ministry of George Fox with the humanitarian reforms of William Tuke. Fox, a radical religious leader, claimed to heal by the power of the Lord working through him. Tuke, a prosperous merchant, managed an innovative asylum. Fox and Tuke lived in different times and occupied different social roles but shared a commitment to Quakerism. Both were laymen, working outside the perimeters of established medical practices …
