Characterizing Community Formation in Response to Extreme Weather Events Through Human Mobility Networks
Community formation in socio-spatial human networks is an important mechanism through which populations cope with and mitigate the impacts of extreme weather hazards. However, limited research has examined the latent network characteristics that shape community formation in human mobility networks during natural hazard-related disasters. In this study, we analyzed human mobility networks in Harris County, Texas, during the managed power outages a…
“Museum Fever”
Over the past century, the museum‐public relationship has been (re)imagined in China. From the 1860s to the early 21st century, the Chinese state has played an active role in shaping the role and function of museums. Utilized for social education and the enhancement of the “quality of citizens” (1860s–1940s), state propaganda and mass mobilization under Communism (1950s–1970s), and patriotic education and cultural nationalism (1980s–2008), the mu…

The evolution of organisational structures in Chinese museums
Since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, the organisational structures of museums have undergone continuous transformation in response to shifting political, economic, and social contexts. However, few studies have systematically examined the background, processes, and impacts of these changes. This article traces the historical development of organisational structures in Chinese museums, focusing on three key models: (1) the…

Openness and Fluidity of Place
Compared to traditional museums, ecomuseums encompass community, heritage and a cultural landscape, transforming a place into an in situ museum. When employed as a cultural tool or heritage project, ecomuseums are dedicated to representing local distinctiveness and strengthening a sense of place. What happens when the intentions are such, but the development practice for ecomuseums is inherently fraught with challenges? This article reveals that …
Living Wisdom and Intangible Heritage
The aim of intangible heritage is to preserve diversity for the sustainable development of culture, which allows its creators and stakeholders to reflect the evolution of cultural characteristics and identity for any given communities, or group of individuals. However, the safeguarding and interpretation of intangible heritage has faced challenges in practical performance, especially when representing local voices or in achieving inclusivity in n…
Landscape Pattern Theoretical Optimization of Urban Green Space Based on Ecosystem Service Supply and Demand
Assessing the supply and demand of urban green space (UGS) ecosystem services (ESs) can provide relevant insights for urban planning. This study presents an analysis method for the spatial distribution of UGS ES supply and demand at administrative unit and 1-m grid scales and directly compares the matches of ES supply and demand in spatially explicit maps at two scales. Based on the analysis results at administrative unit scale, administrative un…
Is Loveless (2017) a film festival film on demand
This is a Deep Focus roundtable discussing Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev’s film Loveless (2017), originally published on 1 July 2018, and facilitated by then editor, Zhao Jin. While two of the guests expressed relatively positive opinions of the film, film scholar Kai Yin gave Loveless a low score, calling it a dianying jie feihua yishu dianying (literally, ‘nonsense arthouse cinema at film festivals’), which was also referred to as a ‘film…

Spatio‐temporal dynamic analysis of an island city landscape
The spatio‐temporal dynamic landscape pattern of Xiamen throughout its rapid urbanisation from 1987 to 2007 was studied using analyses of landscape indices and fractal methods (box counting method, BCM). Based on remote sensing (RS) and a geographic information system (GIS), five Landsat TM5 images were used to construct a land‐use database for the studied area. BCM was programmed in Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 and MapObject. Over the last 20 year…
Analysis of socio-economic driving forces on built-up area expansion in Xiamen
Based on grey relational analysis and stepwise regression, this study analysed the socio-economic driving forces of Xiamen since the reform and opening of China. The research aimed to explore the deep dynamic mechanism of urban space expansion of Xiamen and provide scientific support for its sustainable development. The results indicate resource consumption factors and population factors have had a significant driving effect on the expansion of b…
