  • Trainees’ experience and expectations of cerebrocardiac health advisors training programs in China

Open Access•Chun Zhang, Xiaojuan Su et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Background: Cerebrocardiac health advisors (CHAs) play a pivotal role in coordinating neuro-cardiovascular care. However, systematic trainee-centered evaluations of training programs remain scarce. Understanding their experiences and expectations is essential for evidence-based program optimization and strengthening the frontline public health workforce. Methods: A convergent parallel mixed-methods study was conducted in Hubei Province, China, in…

  • Implementation effectiveness, barriers, and real-world outcomes of neuromuscular training programs for ACL injury prevention in female athletes

Open Access•Yongzhe Gao, Lu Qi et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Background: ACL injuries disproportionately affect female athletes. Neuromuscular training (NMT) is effective in controlled studies, but real-world adoption and adherence remain poor. Objective: To synthesize evidence on implementation effectiveness, barriers/facilitators, and real-world outcomes of NMT for ACL prevention in female athletes using narrative synthesis. Methods: Following SWiM, we searched PubMed, SPORTDiscus, Scopus, and Web of Sci…

  • Replacing sedentary behaviour with physical activity and all-cause mortality in older adults

Huan Huang, Zhaojun Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2026•References: 36

BACKGROUND: Older adults typically have higher sedentary behaviour (SB) and lower physical activity (PA) than younger adults. Studies on replacing SB with PA in relation to all-cause mortality in racially diverse older adults remain limited. METHODS: This study included 122 966 older adults from the China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB) and 207 212 older adults from the UK Biobank (UKB). SB and PA were assessed using baseline questionnaires, with PA class…

  • Videos in short video sharing platforms as a source of information on bipolar disorder

Open Access•Xin Qi, Lu Qi et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Background: Bipolar disorder is a prevalent mental health issue characterized by recurrent episodes of mania and depression, significantly impacting patients' quality of life. With the rise of short video sharing platforms, there is an urgent need to evaluate the quality and reliability of the medical information disseminated regarding this disorder. Objective: This study aimed to assess the quality and reliability of videos related to bipolar di…

  • Body composition, lifestyle, and depression

Open Access•Xingyu Lv, Jie Cai et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

High levels of body composition measures were associated with an increased depression risk. Adverse body composition measures may weaken the link between a healthy lifestyle and a reduced risk of depression

  • Determinants and Consequences of Obesity

Adela Hruby, Joann E Manson et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2016•Cited by: 24•References: 44

Objectives. To review the contribution of the Nurses’ Health Studies (NHS and NHS II) in addressing hypotheses regarding risk factors for and consequences of obesity. Methods. Narrative review of the publications of the NHS and NHS II between 1976 and 2016. Results. Long-term NHS research has shown that weight gain and being overweight or obese are important risk factors for type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, certain types of cancers, and …

  • Contribution of the Nurses’ Health Studies to Uncovering Risk Factors for Type 2 Diabetes

Sylvia H Ley, Andres V Ardisson Korat et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2016•References: 45

Objectives. To review the contribution of the Nurses’ Health Study (NHS) and the NHS II to addressing hypotheses regarding risk factors for type 2 diabetes. Methods. We carried out a narrative review of 1976 to 2016 NHS and NHS II publications. Results. The NHS and NHS II have uncovered important roles in type 2 diabetes for individual nutrients, foods, dietary patterns, and physical activity independent of excess body weight. Up to 90% of type 2…

  • Diet, Lifestyle, Biomarkers, Genetic Factors, and Risk of Cardiovascular Disease in the Nurses’ Health Studies

Edward Yu, Eric B Rimm et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2016•Cited by: 3•References: 43

Objectives. To review the contributions of the Nurses’ Health Studies (NHSs) to the understanding of cardiovascular disease etiology in women. Methods. We performed a narrative review of the publications of the NHS and NHS II between 1976 and 2016. Results. Diets low in trans fat, saturated fat, refined carbohydrates, and sugar-sweetened beverages and rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and sources of unsaturated fats are associated with…

  • Working Memory Representation Does Guide Visual Attention

Bao Zhang, Zhang Bao et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2013

Open Access•Zumin Shi, Minghao Zhou et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2010

Objective Fe supplementation has been used to prevent anaemia in China; however, high Fe intake and body Fe stores may increase diabetes risk. The present study aimed to prospectively examine the association between Fe intake/stores and hyperglycaemia, and to assess the joint effects on anaemia. Design We followed 1056 healthy adults aged 20 years and older from 2002 to 2007. Body Fe stores were measured. Dietary data were collected using a 3 d f…
