How growing up without siblings affects the adult brain and behaviour in the CHIMGEN cohort
Machine Learning Algorithms for the Diagnosis of Class III Malocclusions in Children
Our findings suggest that ML models based on cephalometric data could effectively assist dentists to classify dental, functional and skeletal Class III malocclusions in children. In addition, features such as SN_GoMe, U1_NA and Overjet can as important indicators for predicting the severity of Class III malocclusions
Network pharmacology and experimental evidence: ERK/CREB/BDNF signaling pathway is involved in the antidepressive roles of Kaiyu Zhishen decoction
Giant Prostate Abscess: A Case Report and Literature Review
Prostate abscess, a rare condition often associated with prostate bacterial infections, often occurs in immunosuppressive individuals and manifests as fever and lower urinary tract symptoms. Clinical practice lacks standardized diagnostic and treatment protocols for prostate abscesses, resulting in predominantly empirical approaches with uncertain outcomes. This study presents a case of a giant prostate abscess, diagnosed in a patient exhibiting …
Patent foramen ovale closure vs. medical therapy alone after cryptogenic stroke in China: A cost-effectiveness analysis
Background: In 2019, there were 28. 76 million patients with stroke in China, with ~25% of them suffering from cryptogenic stroke (CS). Patent foramen ovale (PFO) is related to CS, and PFO closure can reduce recurrent stroke. To date, no study has investigated the cost-effectiveness of PFO closure vs. medical therapy among such populations in China. Methods: A Markov model with a cycle length of 3 months was established to compare the 30-year cos…

The asymmetric impact of abundant preceding rainfall on heat stress in low latitudes
In addition to high temperature, high humidity can have significant consequences on thermal comfort of human beings. The co-occurrence of high temperature and high humidity (so-called 'oppressive hot days') often results in heat stress events, but the extent to which it is affected by preceding surface moisture has not been fully understood to date. In this study, we examine the relations between preceding 3-month standardized precipitation index…
Spatially distinct effects of preceding precipitation on heat stress over eastern China
In many terrestrial regions, higher than usual surface temperatures are associated with (or are even induced by) surface moisture deficits. When in the warm season temperatures become anomalously high, their extreme values affect human beings causing heat stress. Besides increased temperature, rising humidity may also have substantial implications for bodily thermal comfort. However, the effects of surface moisture on heat stress, when considerin…
Cold winter extremes in northern continents linked to Arctic sea ice loss
The satellite record since 1979 shows downward trends in Arctic sea ice extent in all months, which are smallest in winter and largest in September. Previous studies have linked changes in winter atmospheric circulation, anomalously cold extremes and large snowfalls in mid-latitudes to rapid decline of Arctic sea ice in the preceding autumn. Using observational analyses, we show that the winter atmospheric circulation change and cold extremes are…
Compound Astragalus and Salvia miltiorrhiza Extract exerts anti-fibrosis by mediating TGF-β/Smad signaling in myofibroblasts
